THOSE OF YOUR MINE SITE CAN RESULT IN
DEATH, SERIOUS INJURY, AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.

Introduction
Your Radio Remote Control System (RRC) equipped vehicle is a
powerful tool. As powerful as it is, it is imperative that you, the
operator, understand how to use this tool safely. In preparation
for use of the RRC System, you must read and comprehend the
Radio Remote Control Operations Manual that accompanies your
system. Also, you must read and understand your Scooptram
Operators Manual and be familiar with the operation of your
vehicle.
Always adhere to the safety guidelines outlined in this manual
when using your RRC System. Before any use of the RRC sys-
tem, you must be trained in the safe operation of your Scooptram.
IMPORTANT: Your mine site may have it’s own rules and regu-
lations governing the operation of the RRC System which super-
sede those of this manual. In addition, you must have received
specific training in how to use the RRC System prior to operation
of this vehicle.
To ensure safe operation of your Scooptram in RRC mode, it is
important that the vehicle is operated & maintained within manu-
facturing specifications. Consult your service technician and
Scooptram Service Manual for service information. It is your
responsibility to be sure that the vehicle has been properly main-
tained before using the RRC System.
WARNING: Failure to make sure the vehicle is work-
ing properly can result in unsafe conditions that could
lead to serious injury or death to yourself or bystand-
ers.

Any unauthorized modifications that are made to the vehicle can
affect the performance of your RRC System.
IMPORTANT: Prior to every use of the RRC System, be sure to
perform the pre-start checks and inspections as outlined in your
Scooptram Operator’s Manual.
Definition of Terms
Term Definition
OU Operators Unit. This is remote control unit for
the Scooptram that is worn by the operator.
MU Machine Unit. This is the base of the remote
control unit that is on the Scooptram.
RRC Radio Remote Control. This is the system
which enables you to control the Scooptram
from a distance.
EOD Eject-O-Dump. Optional push plate assembly
for the Scooptram bucket.

Preparing For RRC Mode
The area in which the RRC vehicle is operated must be a con-
trolled environment. A controlled environment is defined as an
area that is clear of people and equipment, and in which people
will not have contact with the Scooptram during it’s RRC opera-
tion. Operating the RRC Scooptram in a controlled environment
will reduce the risk of injury to life or property.
IMPORTANT: The minimum distance from vehicle to the opera-
tor is 5 (five) meters in RRC mode.
Follow these steps to set up your Scooptram for RRC mode:
1. Park the vehicle in a controlled environment. Be sure to park
the vehicle straight or turned slightly to the right so that the
operator’s compartment can be easily exited.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Place the transmission control in neutral.
4. Lower the boom and bucket completely so that the bucket
blade rests on the ground.
5. In the operator’s compartment, switch the RRC controls from
manual operation to remote operation.
IMPORTANT: On selected units, the switching to remote opera-
tion mode will start a 20 second delay to engine shutdown. Dur-
ing this 20 second delay, the Operator’s Unit (OU) must be
powered on and make radio contact with the Machine Unit (MU)
or the engine will shutdown. On units not equipped with this
delay feature, the engine will shutdown upon switching to remote
mode.
6. Operator may exit vehicle.

WARNING: While in remote mode, vehicle is still on
and able to respond to operator controls. Operator
must not use steering wheel or joysticks to assist in
climbing in or out of vehicle. Doing so could result in
death or injury by unanticipated movement of the
vehicle.
7. Adjust the straps if necessary on the OU, and put it on.
IMPORTANT: Do not turn on OU until it is being worn and
straps are adjusted. Unit has a 30-degree tolerance for tilt. It will
shutdown vehicle if unit tilts in excess of 30 degrees from the hor-
izontal.
8. Turn the power to the unit on.
9. Conduct The following operating checks of the RRC Sys-
tem:
WARNING: Failure to test all systems with the OU
can result in unpredictable operation and/or injury.
IMPORTANT: If vehicle fails to perform correctly during test or
at any time while operating, stop operating the vehicle until the
problem has been corrected.
10. Test the brakes.
11. Test throttle at half, full, and proportional throttle.
12. Test left and right hand steering.
13. Move vehicle forwards and in reverse.
14. Attempt to move vehicle by OU control starting with the
parking brake applied and vehicle not in neutral. Vehicle
should not move.

15. Raise and lower the boom.
16. Test bucket dump and rollback capabilities.
17. If equipped with Eject-O-Dump (EOD), test that push plate
extends and retracts.
18. Test horn, if OU is equipped.
19. Verify vehicle shutdown:
•On vehicles equipped with the 20 second delayed shut-
down feature, verify that the engine will shutdown after the
time has elapsed.
•On units not equipped with this delay feature, verify that
the engine shuts down immediately.
20. Test headlights, if OU is equipped.
21. When testing fire suppression system as part of regular vehi-
cle inspections, be sure to verify that the fire suppression
system can be triggered by the OU as well.
22. Perform any additional tests that your mine prescribes.
After completing test successfully, vehicle is now ready to oper-
ate.

Terminating RRC Mode
Follow these steps to stop RRC operation:
1. Park the vehicle in a controlled environment. Be sure to park
the vehicle straight or turned slightly to the right so that the
operator’s compartment can be easily entered.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Place the transmission control in neutral.
4. Shut down RRC on the OU. This can be done by:
•Shutting the Scooptram down instantly
•Shutting down OU with a 20 second delay
IMPORTANT: On selected units, the switching from remote
operation mode will start a 20 second delay to engine shutdown.
During this 20 second delay, the Machine Unit (MU) must be
engaged or the engine will shutdown. On units not equipped with
this delay feature, the engine will shutdown upon switching from
remote mode.
RRC control can be resumed by applying power to the OU
and depressing the engine start button. After RRC control is
terminated on the OU, remove OU and store in a safe area.
Do not drop OU.
5. In the operator’s compartment, switch controls from remote
operation to manual operation.

climbing in or out of vehicle. Doing so could result in
death or injury by unanticipated movement of the
vehicle.
6. Vehicle is now no longer in RRC operation.
