My Daily Routine as a College Student in Marawi City

Morning Rituals

My day usually starts early, around 6:30 am. I wake up to the sound of my alarm
clock, ready to start my day. After a quick stretch, I make my bed and head to the
bathroom to freshen up. I take a shower, brush my teeth, and get dressed in my
comfortable uniform or clothes.

Next, I make my way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Since I live in a shared
cottage with my cousins who are also students, I try to keep my meals simple and
healthy. I usually have a small portion of rice, a warm bowl of noodle soup, and a cup
of coffee. While I eat, I enjoy watching random videos on my phone or listening to
music to start my day on a positive note.

After breakfast, I gather my notebooks, books, and other essentials for the day and
head out the door. I live within walking distance of a large house and a cottage house,
so I enjoy the fresh air and exercise as I make my way to campus. On my way, I often
stop by a street food stall to grab some kwek-kwek and chat with some of my
classmates.

Academic Pursuits

My first class of the day usually starts at 8:39 am. I am currently studying Bachelor of
Science in Social Work. I find my classes challenging but rewarding, and I enjoy
learning from my professors and interacting with my classmates from different parts
of the area.

In class, I take detailed notes, participate in discussions, and ask questions whenever I
need clarification. I try to stay focused and engaged, even when the material is
difficult. After class, I usually have some free time to review my notes, work on
assignments, or study for upcoming exams. I would like to find a quiet place on
campus, but it is a very noisy environment because most of the students are
engineering students who are mostly male and are always in groups. Sometimes, I
look for an empty seat to wait for my next subject, where I can concentrate and relax.
In addition to my regular classes, I am a shifting student who came from the
Engineering Department, where I don't know many of my classmates yet. I can say
that I am a student who struggles in academics, but I try to understand for my own
benefit. As a first-year student, I still don't know much about college life.

Days Without Classes or Holidays

When there is a holiday at our school, I want to go home to the province and have fun
because we only get to go home sometimes because we don't have any free days. We
have classes every day, so when I go home to the province, I really enjoy it because I
want to do everything because living in a different place to study doesn't have the
same kind of happiness as being home. You just study, do school work, and sleep
early for the next day's classes.

Living away from home has also been a great opportunity for personal growth and
development. I have learned to be more independent, self-sufficient, and responsible. I
have to manage my own finances, cook my own meals, do my own laundry, and take
care of my own health and well-being. I have also learned to be more adaptable and
flexible, as I have had to adjust to a new lifestyle, a new set of customs, and a new
way of life.

Evening Rituals

After a long day of classes, activities, and exploring, I usually return home around
4:00 pm as the sun sets. I like to unwind and relax by taking a shower, changing into
comfortable clothes, and watching television or listening to music. I also like to catch
up with my roommates and share stories about our day.

For dinner, I usually cook a simple meal like fried eggs, Pancit canton, or sometimes
we buy from a small store. We enjoy doing things like buying food together and
cooking. I can say that it is a great way to relax and de-stress. After dinner, I like to
use my phone to watch TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook videos. If I have school work
and projects, like assignments, activities, or practice my drawing skills, I do those.

Before going to bed, I like to take some time to reflect on my day and set goals for the
next day. I also like to practice some relaxation techniques, such as meditation or deep
breathing, to help me sleep better. I usually go to bed around 11:00 pm, feeling tired
but satisfied with my day.

My daily routine as a student is busy, challenging, and rewarding. It is a constant

balancing act between academic pursuits and personal activities. But despite the
challenges, I wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world. Living and
studying in a different place far from my family has been the adventure of my life,
and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore in a new and exciting
environment.
