2022 ANU BUSINESS CASE STUDY REPORT

I) Venture Proposal
1. Company overview - Mission and Vision
The company is a partnership run by Cassandra Taylor, Alan Ginting, and Joanna Cheng. It
offers management and advertising services for free and ticketed events catered to ANU
students. The business’ mission is to provide entertainment affordable for all students and open
for all performers, in order to share the founders’ passion for music and benefit the local
community. Its vision is to become the most sought-after management and advertising company
for top ticketed events attracting the ANU’s student body and Canberra community. The business
estimates to reach 150-225 participants/event, depending on the venue’s carrying capacity limit.
2. Measure of success
Firstly, by measuring customer satisfaction. The business should create surveys for ticketed and
free-entry customers separately. Because ticketed customers may not feel the same way as free
customers, as ticketed customers expect better value for their payment. Another method is to
notice customers' reactions throughout the event or to interview customers. Nevertheless, using
surveys through QR is the best choice, it is the fastest and most effective since everyone is
using smartphones nowadays. It will give the most answers in the shortest duration. In the
long-term, they should assess satisfaction through social media’s feedback from Facebook, and
Instagram, as they are proficient in it. Secondly, they could think about the efficiency of the
business and events by looking at revenues and expenditures of events to identify any inefficient
spending or replace events that do not receive large revenue with others, consider quality of flyer
designs and social media posts, the productivity of partners and workers.

Improve the quality of free events so students can
have a “trial” and begin to trust the quality of the
company. Then, they will feel more willing to join
other events, including ticketed ones.

Invite local artists to ticketed events because there is

Offer lower prices for students so they feel like they

are receiving value for money, especially during the
first few events when the business has not built up a
good enough reputation to have huge demand.

[2] The price was not specific and ranged from $500-$2000. We calculated the mean of the two
values ($1250) to find an estimate price. Then we divided that price by 3 because we are only
hiring one musician from the band of three people. We got 416.67 but the minimum in the range
if $500 so we put $500 as the price.
[3] Only 25 flyers needed because these already can be easily seen by many people in the The
Kambri Cultural Precinct (where there tends to be many people because it is the heart of the
social space), Fenner Hall (where there are students that may be interested in music because a
few students have started playing music there), and outside of campus buildings/library (where
students usually passed by)
[4] People are less likely to have a lot of time to eat during a dance event so the Doritos (which
take time to eat) will be sold but quantity at a little less than 25% of guests there.
[5] The Doritos (which take time to eat) won't be suitable as dancers in the Random Play Dance
event will be spending time on dancing. Therefore, we're not buying Doritos for the third event
during May and only buying for the first two events
[6] Only 20% of participants in an Australia survey drink soda on a regular basis
[7] Being intoxicated makes dancing harder and participants in Random Play Dance are
generally more focused on dancing, so they would not want to drink alcohol.
[8] Target number of customers for events held in Amphitheatre: 225. Number of customers for
events held in Drama Theatre: 150 due to carrying capacity limit.
[10] In the PDF, it says that the minimum wage is $21.38/hr but casual workers usually get a bit
more; therefore, we set the price as $23
[11] The ANU COVID: Functions on Campus Protocol state that such buildings already have
hand santiser (except for Speed Friending)
[12] While Coca Cola might be the most popular soda in Australia, the consumption for
carbonated drinks have decreased by a lot and only 20% of participants in an Australia survey
drink soda regularly, so we assume only 20% would buy Cola for the entire length of the event
except for movie events where people more commonly drink soda
[2] Student budgets 50-100A$ per fortnight for miscellaneous discretionary spending
[3] Indications of large demand: The venues where Joanna and Cassandra worked in were both
fully booked when there were local artists performances scheduled. Furthermore, music events
during O-week were very popular with ANU students.
[4] Casual professional musicians are likely to charge from A$45 to A$60/hour, but established
artists can negotiate higher rates.
