Circular Measure in A-Level Mathematics

This document is a lesson plan on circular measure that covers: 1) Defining radians and the relationship between radians and degrees. 2) How to calculate arc length using the formula that relates arc length to radius and radian measure of the central angle. 3) How to calculate the area of a circular sector and segment using formulas involving the radian measure of the central angle and radius. 4) Worked examples of calculating arc lengths, sector and segment areas.

use the relationship between radians and degrees

The measure of degree and radian

In a circle of radius 1 unit, radii joining the centre O to the ends of an arc of length 1 unit form an angle called 1 radian. radian = rad
1 unit 0 1 unit 1 radian 1 unit

rad = 180o

There are 2 radians in an unit circle.
