CHAPTER III
DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
This chapter describes and discusses the research design and methodology that the
researcher used in this study. This consists of research locale, respondent of the study, research
design, sampling procedure, research instrument and data gathering procedures and statistical
tool.
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study will use quantitative method of research. This research will use the
Experimental research design is appropriate to the study in the collection necessary information
about the present existing status and economic concern of online selling or online success in
Brgy. Panggao Saduc, Marawi City. It is helpful in describing the actual strategies of the online
business as it occurs at the time of study to discover the cause of certain occurrence.
Descriptive-survey approach in the study is appropriate in providing facts on which
definite may be constructed. These deliver critical information the condition of online business
and people.
Finally, this study will employ the various process in analyzing data using Narrative amd
Content analysis. The research will also conduct focused group interview to verify finding and
results.
METHODOLOGY
A Survey Questionnaire will employ in this study to respond to the research question
discussed earlier. Section A of the questionnaire consists of 3 demographic questions of online
sellers, Section B with 6 questions to determine the benefits of online selling. Online selling has
a number number if advantages over selling by traditional methods. Section C with 20 question
determining the problems encountered in online selling. All question B and C used likert scale of
1 = strongly disagree to 5 = strongly agree.
Primary data of this research was obtained from online seller aged between 18 and 50
years old through questionnaire. The population of this research is in different block within Brgy.
Panggao Saduc.
LOCALE OF THE STUDY
The study will conducted in different block within Brgy. Panggao Saduc because of many
seller are involve within this baranggay as it takes and requires many businessman to gather
some important data that would be needed regarding the experiences of being an online selling.
RESPONDENT OF THE STUDY
The respondent of the study will be the online seller of Brgy. Panggao Saduc. This
respondent are the ones who are able to help or fulfill the sample questionnaire that the
researcher gave them which supplies the information that the researcher need. The below
computation below will show the researcher will get the sample sizes of respondents.
N= N
A + Ne²
A = Sample size
N = Population size
E = Margin of Error
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
The researcher will give survey questionnaire to the chosen respondent personally or
through someone related to them. In the process of the first meeting with the respondent, a
guideline will be given and then the researcher will give a proper introduction about the study
and discuss the importance and significance of the person’s participation in the research. The
respondent will supply their answer based on the option in the questionnaire that will be
distributed. The answer of the respondent will be collected and subjected or data interpretation
through statistical treatment. Finally, this study will employ the various process in analyzing data
narrative. The researvher will also conducted focused discussion to verify finding and results.
DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE
In order to gather the data, the researcher conducted a survey to the staffs of target online
seller in Brgy. Panggao Saduc, Marawi City. Random sampling was used and there are
approximately 30 interviewees who respond and answered the questionnaire after answering the
question. The researcher will group the answer of the respondents in a table and that sets with
question. With the use of frequency and percentage. However, in order to get the percentage, it
follows the format of formula on how to get the percentage over the frequency. As of the formula
(frequency = total of respondents – percentage) example, the frequency and percentage
distribution of the respondents position (12 ÷ 30 = 0.4). The 12 represent as the frequency of
choice answer of respondents, while the 30 stands for the target of total of respondents.
Meanwhile, the 0.4 is the total of the division but since 0.4 is a decimal given and to make it unto
percentage. It will easily transporting the point between the 0 and 4 towards right twice, only to
transfer the zero to right and put a percentage sign next to zero.
STATISTICAL TOOL USED
The data gather had been tallied and were analyzed and interpreted using the following
statistical tools.
1.) Frequency and Percentage distribution
The formula which is from the statistics book of Adams and Mingle (2015) is the following:
Percentage (%) – 100
Where; F = Frequency
N = Total no. of respondents
100 = Constant
2.) Weighted Mean
The weighted mean was computed to get the average or central value of the responses in every
statement using this formula:
WM = (X⁵)+(X⁴)+(X³)+(X²)+(X¹)
N
Where; WM = Weighted mean
X¹ = No. of the respondents in strongly disagree
X² = No. of the respondents in disagree
X³ = No. of the respondents in neutral
X⁴ = No. of the respondents in agree
X⁵ = No. of the respondents in strongly agree
The general weighted mean was computed using the formula:
Where: W = Weighted average
N = Number of terms to be averaged
W = Weighted applied to x values
X = Data values to be averaged
3.) Likert Scale
The Likert scale was used to measure the participant’s opinion to a particular questions or
statement. It was invented by Rinses Likert. The responses to questions were scaled using the
Likert Scale System (5 – poing scale: Strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree)
and given weight as next.
To interpret the mean reflected in the tables, the following:
Unit Weight Assigned Values Verbal Interpretation Weighted Mean Interval
(Scale)
1 Strongly Disagree [Link] – 1.80
2 Disagree 1.81 – 2.60
3 Neutral 2.61 – 3.40
4 Agree 3.41 – 4.20
5 Strongly Agree 4.21 – 5.00
