Tanda Baca (Punctuation
Marks)
Tanda baca digunakan untuk membantu memahami struktur dan makna
kalimat. Berikut adalah beberapa tanda baca yang umum digunakan
dalam bahasa Inggris:
Period (.): Digunakan untuk mengakhiri kalimat deklaratif.
Contoh: "She enjoys reading."
Comma (,): Digunakan untuk memisahkan elemen dalam sebuah
kalimat atau daftar.
Contoh: "I bought apples, oranges, and bananas."
Question Mark (?): Digunakan di akhir kalimat tanya.
Contoh: "What time is it?"
Exclamation Mark (!): Digunakan untuk mengekspresikan emosi atau
kekuatan.
Contoh: "Watch out!"

Colon (:): Digunakan untuk memperkenalkan daftar, kutipan, atau


penjelasan.
Contoh: "You will need the following items: a pen, paper, and a
ruler."

Semicolon (;): Digunakan untuk menghubungkan dua kalimat yang


berkaitan erat.
Contoh: "She loves to swim; he prefers to jog."
Quotation Marks (" "): Digunakan untuk menandai ucapan langsung
atau kutipan.
Contoh: "He said, 'I'll be there soon.'"

Apostrophe ('): Digunakan untuk menunjukkan kepemilikan atau


dalam kontraksi.
Contoh: "It's Sarah's book."
Dash (—)
Use: To indicate a break in thought or to set off additional
information.
Example: "I was going to the party—if I could find my shoes."

Hyphen (-)
Use: To connect words or parts of words, such as in compound
adjectives or to split words at the end of a line.
Example: "The well-known author signed the book."

mother-in-law, mother in law
Parentheses ( )
Use: To include additional information or asides that are not
essential to the main point.
Example: "He finally answered (after taking his time) that he would
attend the meeting."

Brackets [ ]
Use: To include explanatory or missing information within quoted
text.
Example: "He said that he [the manager] would approve the
proposal."
