Present Continuous Tense
The present continuous tense describes actions that are happening right
now or around the present moment. It can also refer to future plans.
1. Structure of the Present Continuous
Subject + am/is/are + verb (-ing)
Examples :I am reading a book.
She is cooking dinner.
They are playing soccer
2. Uses of the Present Continuous
a. Actions Happening at the moment
Used to describe actions that are happening at the moment of speaking
(now) . Ex : I am writing an email right now.
b. Temporary Actions
Used for actions happening around the current time but not necessarily at
the moment of speaking.
Ex : He is studying for his exams these days.
c. Future Plans
Used to describe fixed plans or arrangements in the near future.
Ex : We are meeting our friends tomorrow.
She is flying to Paris next week.
d. Changing Situations
Used for actions or situations that are in the process of changing.
Ex : The weather is getting colder.
Technology is improving every day
3. Time Expressions with Present Continuous
Now : She is working now.
At the moment : They are having lunch at the moment.
Today/This week/This month : I am learning a new skill this month.
Tomorrow/Next week (for future plans) : We are visiting the museum
tomorrow.
4. Negative Form :
Add not after the auxiliary [Link] : I am not watching TV.
She is not (isn’t) coming to the party.
5. Forming questions :
Invert the subject and the auxiliary verb.
Ex : Is she working today ?
Are they coming to the meeting ?
