---MAJ SHAZIA BIBI

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests,

Today, I want to take you through a journey of self-discovery as I share the story of a recent experience -
giving a speech. In this narrative, I will be using the framework known as Gibb's Cycle of Reflection to
navigate through the various phases of this experience and reveal how it went, what I felt, what worked
well, what didn't, what I learned, and the steps I intend to take moving forward.

**Description (What Happened):**

Let's start with the first step: description. The experience in question revolves around a speech I was
tasked with delivering. In preparation, I invested time in researching my chosen topic, carefully crafting
my content, and meticulously rehearsing my delivery. The day of the speech arrived, and I found myself
standing before an expectant audience. The mix of excitement and anxiety was palpable as I began my
presentation.

The initial moments of my speech were characterized by confidence and conviction. My opening lines
flowed smoothly, and I felt in complete control of the situation. However, as time progressed, a
noticeable shift occurred. Confidence gave way to nervousness, and my composure started to waver. My
voice began to quiver, and the ability to maintain consistent eye contact with the audience became
increasingly challenging. To my dismay, I also found that I had forgotten some of the key points I had
meticulously rehearsed.

**Feelings (How I Felt):**

Moving on to the second step - feelings. During the speech, my emotions took me on a rollercoaster
ride. At the outset, I was thrilled and eager to share my knowledge with the audience. The sense of
purpose filled me with enthusiasm. However, as difficulties emerged, this initial excitement gave way to
anxiety and self-doubt. The beating of my heart quickened, and I couldn't help but think that my
nervousness was visible to all who were watching.

**Evaluation (What Went Well and What Didn't):**

Now, let's evaluate the performance, the third step of Gibb's Cycle of Reflection. The commencement of
my speech was robust. I observed that several audience members were genuinely engaged and
interested in what I was saying. It appeared that I was off to a promising start. However, as my anxiety
grew and my recollection of key points faded, I sensed a noticeable shift in the audience's attentiveness.
It was evident that my delivery was falling short of the effectiveness I had envisioned.

**Analysis (Why It Happened):**

In the fourth step, it's time to analyze why my speech unfolded as it did. I realized that my anxiety
played a pivotal role in shaping my performance. It interfered with my cognitive processes, making it
challenging to think clearly and recall essential points. Moreover, upon reflection, I acknowledged that
time management was an area that required improvement. I had dedicated an excessive amount of time
to the introductory section, resulting in a rushed delivery of the core content.

**Conclusion (What I Learned):**

In the fifth stage, we arrive at conclusions. This part of the process involves drawing lessons from the
experience. First and foremost, I recognized the pressing need to better manage my anxiety when
delivering speeches. Maintaining a sense of calm and composure is pivotal to the delivery of an effective
speech. Secondly, I grasped the significance of effective time management, ensuring a well-balanced
structure for my speeches to sustain audience engagement.

**Action Plan (What I'll Do Next):**

Now, we move to the final step, the action plan. Based on my conclusions, I have identified several steps
that I plan to implement for the enhancement of my public speaking skills:
1. To address anxiety, I will engage in regular practice of relaxation techniques, including deep breathing
exercises and visualization. These strategies will aid in calming nerves before and during a speech.

2. In terms of time management, I will work on the creation of a meticulously structured speech outline.
This will guarantee a more equitable allocation of time to each segment, fostering a consistent pace and
audience engagement.

3. Seeking additional practice opportunities in front of friends or colleagues will become a regular
exercise, permitting the collection of feedback and the development of experience.

4. To further bolster my public speaking capabilities, I intend to explore resources and courses on the
subject, aiming to acquire insights and strategies from experts in the field.

In conclusion, the application of Gibb's Cycle of Reflection has been instrumental in facilitating my
understanding of my recent speech experience. It has spotlighted the pronounced impact of anxiety on
my ability to deliver an effective speech and underlined the paramount significance of adept time
management. With the practical action plan delineated, I am confident that my public speaking abilities
will significantly improve.

Reflection, as I have come to appreciate, is a powerful tool for personal and professional development.
It empowers individuals to learn from their experiences and embark on journeys of growth and
refinement. I thank you for your attention and encourage each one of you to contemplate the potential
benefits of integrating reflective practices into your own life, whether as students, professionals, or
lifelong learners.

In these moments of introspection and growth, we find opportunities to not only become better
versions of ourselves but to also inspire those around us. With this, I leave you with the thought that in
embracing reflection, we embrace growth, and in embracing growth, we embrace progress. Thank you.
