Module: English for Academia

Tom has been invited to a horror-themed New Year’s Eve party


and wants to make his own Frankenstein costume. You bump into
Tom on December 02 and Tom tells you about his plan to make
his own costume.
Before Tom begins work on his new costume, what questions
could we ask Tom about his plan to make a costume?
• What materials will you need to make a costume?

After Tom has finished, what questions could we ask Tom about
his plan to make a costume?
• Are you happy with the finished costume?

Timeline:

December 07: Tom begins work on his costume.
December 22: Tom finishes making the costume.

On December 09, you bump into Tom.


Q: Have you started making your costume (yet)?
A: Yes, I have, I started a couple of days ago.
Q: How is it going?
A: Good. I have chosen a design, and I have collected all
the materials I think I’ll need, and I have started
cutting out the shapes.
Q: Great. Do you think you’ll finish everything before
the party?
A: I hope so.

On December 13, you bump into Tom.


Q: Have you finished making your costume (yet)? (Is it
ready now?)
A: No, I haven’t, but I hope to finish it in the next few
days to one week. All I need to do is sew the arms on.

On December 30, you bump into Tom.


Q: Have you finished making your costume (yet)?
A: Yes. I finished it about one week ago.
A: Yes , it’s done.
Q: Did you finish making your costume (last week,
yesterday)?
A: Yes.
