COURSE OBJECTIVES (SEE COURSE OUTLINE FOR DETAILS)
1. Understand importance and modes of transportation
2. Become proficient in basic traffic data collection and analysis
3. Understand traffic flow characteristics
4. Perform basic highway capacity and Level of Service (LOS) analysis
5. Understand warrants for traffic control devices
6. Understand the fundamentals of traffic signalization
7. Recognize emerging transportation technologies and issues
INSTRUCTION TIME
Time: Refer to IDL Time Table
Students must attend and participate in both in-person and online sessions. Attendance will be monitored
through various means. There will be class activities that require attendance to participate.
OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION
Outside of class, email will be the mode of official communication. Students should regularly check the
class email account for course notes, announcements, updates on assignments, project data, etc.
PRACTICAL SESSIONS
Practical sessions, if organized, will be mandatory. Students unable to attend must provide an official
excuse.

ASSIGNMENTS
Group assignments will be given as needed, and students must participate to fully understand course
materials. Submissions will be scrutinized for originality, and unexcused late work will be rejected.
TRANSPORTATION PROJECT
A transportation group project will be assigned and due near the end of the semester. Project groups will
comprise five members. Completion of the project is mandatory. Late project reports will be rejected.
More details, in addition to due date, will be handed out later.
EXAMS AND QUIZZES
Mid-semester exam will cover course materials leading up to the exam, while end-of-semester exam will
cover the entire course content. Unannounced quizzes may be given from time to time.
ATTENDANCE
Class attendance is mandatory as per University rules, and it will be monitored through various means.
ACADEMIC HONESTY

of Conduct, applies to this course. Assignments submitted for grading will be checked for originality.
