Science Performance Task Plan Draft

Keith: The Philippines is situated within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a 40,000 km
Fault zone in the Pacific Ocean making us vulnerable to earthquakes and
volcanic eruptions. Here are some of our tips to reduce the risk of harm
whenever a disaster strikes our area.
Keith: First! Prepare an emergency kit.
*opens the curtains*
Joax: I got water, food, first-aid kits. What could we need more?
Althea: Hey, Joax! Don’t forget about the radio, batteries and devices. We will
need those too!
AJ: Have you guys checked if have flashlights?
Joax: Oh yeah. Can you please hand it out?
Lance: Look here! Nathan and I found an old bag. You can put the things we
need here!
Althea: That’s great!
Nathan: Don’t forget our clothes too.
Lance: Give them all to me (while putting the things in the bag)
Joax: This is good everyone. Let’s continue to put the stuff we need.
*close the curtains*
Keith: An emergency kit is necessary for short-term survival since it contains
vital necessities for you, your family, or anyone in your home. It's a good
idea to keep your kit in an accessible place so that everyone in the house is
aware of it.*exits*
Joax: Hello, everyone! Now, we will be showing you what we can do before a
disaster.
*open the curtains*
Keith: Look here, everyone! This is a very important family meeting!
Althea: Have you guys heard about the upcoming typhoon?
AJ: I heard it’s going to be a big one and our place is prone to floods!
Keith: Yes, that’s why this is our evacuation plan. We should stick together.
The evacuation center is located here. Have you guys prepared our
emergency kit?
Lance: Yes, we did it earlier!
Keith: That’s good!
Nathan: Hey, guys. Don’t forget the contact numbers! (Nathan gets a
notepad & writes numbers)
Lance: What do we put in the list?
Keith: Put in there our contact numbers, Nathan.
Althea: We need to put there the contact numbers of the police or our
barangay.
AJ: Include the contact numbers of the fire department and hospitals.
Lancelet: Oh! 911!
Nathan: Okay, guys. Everything is on the list!
*close curtains*
Joax: So, before a disaster, create a (family) emergency plan and make sure
everything you need is accessible and make sure you are aware of protective
measures before, during & after evacuation. Put in mind your contact
numbers too. *exits*
Althea: Hello, everyone! Now, let us show you what to do during an
earthquake.
*open curtains*
Lance: *acts panicked*
Joax: Stay calm, Lance. This will help you think better and make wise
decisions.
Lance: Really?
Joax: Yes, so stop panicking and let’s get out of here. We are asked to
evacuate already!
Althea: During a disaster, stay calm so that you will be wise with your
decisions. Wait for further instructions and protocols in your area about
evacuation.
Aj: Hi, Keith what are you doing?
*Aj approaches while Keith is on the phone scrolling*
Keith: I’m checking if there are any updates regarding the typhoon. So far, I
haven’t heard from our local government yet. I’ll inform you once I get
updates.
*close the curtains*
Lance: Hello! Now, we have found out what we can do before & during a
disaster. Let us discuss what we can do after!
*open curtains*
Keith: Are you guys alright? Is there anyone hurt?
Althea: I almost got hit by our furniture earlier. Good thing Aj was there to
pull me.
Aj: Be careful next time, Althea. Anyways, I’m alright.
Keith: That’s good guys, Now, come here! Let’s stay here for a while and
wait.
*Aj & Althea follows*
FEW MINUTES LATER
Althea: Officers!
*Joax & Nathan comes*
Joax: We don’t think it’s safe yet. Its better if you stay here.
Nathan: We will update you when you come back home.
AJ: Okay, officers. Thank you!
Lancelot: After the disaster, find a safe place to stay and be updated with
your local officials for their instructions. Reach out to your local service relief
organizations for assistance and lastly, communicate with your family.
*Closes the curtains*
ALL THE MEMBERS WILL LINE UP.
Keith: A few more facts. We experienced many disasters in the Philippines.
Examples include Typhoon Yolanda and Taal Volcanic Eruption. These
disasters have harmed several families and lives. Furthermore, preparation
and safety should always come first, even though the suggestions we
showed you are simple, they can save you in the event of a crisis. So,
prepare now and decrease the risk of harming yourself, expect the worse and
be safe!
