Topic 1: Talk about school days in the past
Schools in the past were markedly different from the institutions we know today, both in structure and
the approach to education. In earlier times, classrooms were often small, with a single teacher
overseeing the education of a wide range of ages and abilities, often in a single room. The focus was
primarily on basic literacy, numeracy, and moral instruction, with little emphasis on the diverse subjects
that modern education systems offer. Children frequently walked long distances to school, sometimes
enduring harsh weather conditions, as transportation was a luxury few could afford. The environment
was much stricter, with discipline being an important part of daily life. Teachers were often authoritative
figures who maintained control through strict rules, and physical punishment was not uncommon.
However, despite the harshness, there was an undeniable sense of community, and students developed
a strong work ethic, shaped by the limited resources available. In contrast to the technological
advancements we have today, students relied heavily on textbooks, and lessons were taught through
rote memorization rather than interactive learning. The absence of digital tools meant that learning was
often slower and more methodical, with a strong focus on repetition and recitation. While there were
certainly limitations to the education system of the past, it also cultivated a sense of perseverance as
students navigated the challenges of learning in a world that was less connected and more isolated than
it is today. Despite the challenges, those school days were filled with wonderful memories and
meaningful experiences.
Topic 2: Talk about the most pleasant or unpleasant you have ever had at school.
One of the most pleasant experiences of my academic journey occurred last year when I achieved the
highest score on the first 15-minute English test. At the start of the school year, I made a conscious
decision to approach my studies with greater dedication, particularly in English, a subject that intrigued
me yet often posed challenges. I immersed myself in preparation. I delved into grammar books to
solidify my understanding of complex rules, learned vocabulary using flashcards, and enhanced my skills.
Each evening, I set aside time to identify weaknesses, review my progress, and reinforce my
understanding and determination to translate my efforts into success. When the day of the test arrived,
I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. I approached each question, carefully analyzing the prompts
and managing my time to ensure I could complete the test thoroughly. Double-checking my answers
before submitting the paper, I felt a cautious sense of accomplishment, though I couldn’t predict the
outcome with certainty. A few days later, our teacher returned the graded tests, and as she announced
the highest scorer, hearing my name filled me with a sense of pride and validation. The applause from
my classmates and the teacher’s recognition of my effort made it even more special, turning it into a
milestone I will never forget. This experience was more than just a victory; it served as a reminder of the
power of hard work and perseverance. The memory of that achievement continues to inspire me,
motivating me to strive for excellence not only in academics but in all aspects of my life.
