General Law of mirror and lenses
1 1 1
f
= i
+ p

focal length
= P ole−Image
+ P ole−Opject
Procedures
The light bulb is kept at a fixed position at one end of the meter rule. The convex lens
is moved to a position where the object distance, i = 40 cm.
The bulb is switched on and the screen is moved backward and forward to get a sharp
image formed on it. The image distance, v is measured and recorded.
Step 2 is repeated for object distances, i = 35 cm, 30 cm, 25 cm, 20 cm and 18 cm.
All the corresponding values of the image distance, v are measured and recorded. The
results are tabulated in Table.
The values of 1i , v1 and ( 1i + v1 ) are calculated. and get the focal lens value
Focal lens may be given and you are asked to prove that the equation is right.
In this case ( 1i + v1 ) values which are collected from each trail are compared to the given focal lens. They must be close to it

Discussion
1
The graph is a straight-line graph cutting the two axes at two intercepts.
The values of the intercepts are both equal to f1
Conclusion:
The relationship between the object distance, i, image distance, v and focal length, f of
a lens is
1 1 1
f
= i
+ p
Simple Pendulum

T 2 = 4π 2 Lg
g = 4π 2 TL2
Procedures
1. Grab the pendulum with a degree < 10°, because in this range (sin θ) = θ in rad
2. Release the pendulum and when it reach the amplitude start timer
3. Count 20 wave and stop the timer and record the time
4. change the length of the wire and repeat again and record data in the table to calculate the g
