Ohm’s Law Problems Name: _______________________

I. CURRENT RELATIONSHIPS
Date: ___________ Period: _____
The current flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to the voltage current
(potential difference) across the two points and inversely proportional to the
resistance of the conductor. This relationship was discovered in 1827 by the
German physicist Georg Ohm and it is named Ohm’s Law in his honor.
voltage
1. Write Ohm’s Law solved for each of the following quantities:
(a) Voltage (b) Current (c) Resistance
𝑉
𝐼 𝑅
2. Use Ohm’s Law to determine the missing quantity in each of the following simple circuits.

(a) 3A (b) (c) 3A

2Ω 2Ω
12 V 12 V

(d) (e) (f) 0.5 A

2Ω 6Ω 48 Ω
3V 3V

(g) 100 mA (h) 500 mA (i)

240 Ω 1 kΩ
9V 3V

II. PRACTICE PROBLEMS

For each problem, draw a picture of the simple circuit and then solve for the missing quantity.
3. What resistance is needed to restrict a 9 V 4. Calculate the current in a toaster that has a
battery to a current of 0.5 A? heating element of 30 Ω when plugged into an
ordinary wall outlet at 120 V?
