23.1M MONOPOLE TOWER
EXECUTE SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
The structural design review of the existing 23.1m High Monopole Tower located at Baritan,
Malabon, Metro Manila was conducted by the undersigned upon the commission of SMSGT
Technologies Phils.
The main objective of the design review and appraisal is to determine the structural integrity
of the existing tower affected by the proposed antenna upgrade.
SCOPEOFWORK
The structural review and appraisal involve the following procedures:
Conduct site inspection and prepare an as-built of the existing tower. Based on the
preliminary and ocular inspection, make a preliminary assessment of the existing physical
condition. Evaluate the existing antenna support structure and foundation based on the
loading requirements provided by Smart Communications Inc. and provide strengthening
solution if necessary to comply with the minimum strength and stability requirements as
required by the latest structural code.
EXISTING CELLSITE BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The existing cell site is a green field structure. It is a 23.1m High Monopole Tower that will
support the proposed antenna upgrade of Smart Communications Inc. The tower is
composed of 4 panels of cicular pole section. The tower currently supports 3-12 Ports panel
antennas and 10.6mMW. The proposed antenna upgrade will include installation of 3-2.3
MM (MIMO) 1-1.2m MW. Future antenna load considered are 3-2.6G MM (MIMO), 3-3.5G
MM (MIMO) and 1-1.2m MW.
RESULT OF EVALUATION OF THE EXISTINGTOWER
The tower was analyzed with the help of MS Tower software; loads are based on the existing
antenna as surveyed and the load consideration provided by the client. The tower anchorage
was also analyzed using Design+ software.
Based on the foregoing, the existing 23.1m Monopole tower FAILED to meet the minimum
code requirements. The bottom panel is the most critical section with a demand over
capacity ratio (DCR) of 2.12

CONCLUSION&RECOMMENDATIONS
From the structural investigation of the existing 23.1mHighTapered Monopole Tower, it was
observed that the tower members are inadequate when checked with the minimum strength
th
requirements of the NSCP 2015 (7 Edition) and TIA-222-G.

INTRODUCTION
The following presents the structural design criteria, calculations and specifications adopted for
the investigation of structural adequacy of the existing 23.1m High Monopole Tower that will
support the proposed antenna upgrade of SMART Communications. The client, SMSGT
Technologies Phils. Inc., requested for the assessment of existing structure in which the scope
includes a comprehensive structural analysis to assess the stability and safety of the structure to
conform to the latest local and international structural codes.
