A professional environment I work in now or plan to enter would offer a great
opportunity to apply academic theories learned in the System Analysis and Design course
(ITS-535-M71). Through this course, I have become well equipped with several structured
techniques that are used for analyzing and designing systems that can be easily applied in real
life situations improving my ability to contribute meaningfully to any professional
environment. One of the major concepts which found a home with me was Structured System
Analysis and Design Method (SSADM) outlined by Mutiarasari, Pontoh, and Rahman
(2020). SSADM is an extremely detailed approach especially when it comes to requirement
analysis, logical system design as well as physical system development which provides a
good framework for handling complex system development projects. Presently I hold the
position or will if allowed by circumstances be doing so sometime later on in the future of my
profession; actually any other role with regards to my desire for work setting where this
approach can make significant improvements on project outcomes since all the requirements
of these systems must be fully understood before proceeding into design or development
phase.
Actually, there are a number of steps that can be used to apply SSADM or any other
similar methodologies learned from this course. This starts with requirement analysis.
Requirement analysis is the step where business needs are identified and system requirements
defined precisely. Data flow diagrams (DFDs) including entity-relationship diagrams
(ERDs), which are some of the techniques and tools I have learned in this class, can enable
me capture and document such information quickly to understand the problem domain more
deeply (Mutiarasari et al., 2020). This stage guarantees that the system created will fulfill the
specified wants demanded by business or project in question. Furthermore, all stakeholders
must be involved in system design as emphasized by this unit. In designing such systems, it is
important that views and needs of end users, managers, IT professionals are considered.

Within my workplace, these collaborative efforts could be facilitated through workshops or
regular meetings whereby feedback is collected using course materials and tools for
improving system’s requirements and design.
I have also learned various rules of thumb for developing systems that work well and
efficiently. Like, a focus on modularity, scalability and user-centered design affects how I
approach system design in terms of anticipating future needs and putting user experience as
the priority. By doing so, these principles not only ensure that my systems are custom made
to meet current requirements but also they are capable of adapting to new situations as well as
changing clients’ expectations.
In conclusion, the knowledge, skills, and theories gained from the System Analysis
and Design course have significant practical implications in any professional situation
dealing with system development. While in employment or in search of one’s career path, the
techniques adhered to during the training can be used directly to improve quality and
effectiveness related to system analysis and design projects. Through this class I am now
confident about my competency in system analysis and design as it has given me relevant
theoretical insight mixed with pragmatic approaches which makes me more versatile in being
an IT expert.
