Humans Create their Own Future

Human’s desire to live a convenient life is the reason that I believe why technology was born.
We all want to settle in a way of living where we could just sit and enjoy life like watching on a
cinema while holding a bucket of popcorn. As time passes, the spread of technology was quite
large and it is one of the greatest factor while the world turn as it is. From inside our houses, to
the neighborhood, to the villages, cities, countries and even outside the Earth, technology is
there. We can easily say that this modernization is really helping mankind to achieve, learn and
discover more things to further improve each and everyone’s way of living. Me, personally really
embraced how technology affects my life. I discovered new things and I experienced many
challenges where technology really became my only ally. As the everyday of my life passes, I
admit that I am becoming more dependent on technology and I can’t imagine living without the
help of it. But one day, a question just appeared in my thoughts. How far can technology really
go?
The image of the future is no longer hidden from us. Modernization casts a constant light on the
darkness of what will occur tomorrow, next week, next month, and even after many years of
human existence. Technology advances at a rapid pace, similar to how quickly a bullet train
moves from point A to point B, and it demonstrates how far humanity has progressed. Machines,
for example, assist humans in reducing work, saving time, increasing productivity, and
overcoming specific problems. Technology has made significant advances in the diagnosis,
treatment, and cure of diseases in the realms of health and medicine. Not only that, even genetic
engineering allows people and other organisms to be immune to certain diseases and even
improve their health and bodies. Modifications to how an organism integrates its use and
qualities are also achieved, thanks to technology. From seedless fruits, pest-resistant plants, and
fast-growing crops to animals that can accomplish something unimaginable but helpful, such as a
goat that generates spider silk and fish that clean wastes from the water, there are many
possibilities. These changes have progressed to the point that even humans can be modified
before birth. Even though technology has many positive effects to our environment, I am still
bothered on how far does technology can really go.
Nanotechnology, robots, and artificial intelligence have also been developed, making computer
power both magnificent and terrifying. Why? It may sound absurd, but we can't deny the truth
that, as technology advances, it is not impossible for it to surpass human capabilities and
intelligence. It is also possible that someone will abuse this power of technology to dominate and
lead based on their own desires and interests. Creating viruses that can be used to hack personal
information, bank accounts, and other secret files can also be used to fuel global conflict. In
addition, robots in the future will be able to take over normal human activities. When this
happens, humans may eventually lose the control to stay at the top of each and every organism.
Imagine doing services for these robots that humans once created. It would be so scary and kind
of weird. With these possibilities, is technology really our friend? Or it can be our greatest
enemy?
Humans are responsible for all of the technology in the planet. But have you ever considered us
being dominated by technology? What if, as a result of these rapid breakthroughs, we humans
are soon left behind? Maybe all of these assumptions are only seen in fantasy films now, but I
don't think it's impossible for them to become reality. We are grateful for how technology has
enhanced our lives and allowed us to learn and experience incredible things. However, as it
grows, the risk of not knowing what it could become grows as well. The possibility that human
existence will also come to danger, just the thought that we are going to be included on the list of
endangered species makes me feel terrified and bothered. We are in the present, yet we are
gradually losing control over how to appropriately use technology. That is why it appears that the
future no longer requires our services. It is because technology is like mankind's offspring, and it
is gradually becoming more powerful, resulting in humans becoming useless. And it will come a
time where the world will not ever need any humans anymore because technology can finally
stand and depend on its own. Regardless of these factors, I continue to believe that people will
remain at the forefront of technological advancements. Because, unlike technology, humans
maintain their faith, and we are the only organism capable of shaping our own destiny and
creating our own future. And technology and any artificial things will never be able to
accomplish that. Then maybe the future will not need us, but we humans will continue to
advance faster and wiser than technology because we must ensure our own future.
