THE EFFECTS OF STRICT IMPLEMENTATION OF SCHOOL UNIFORM AND ITS IMPACT


TO THE STUDENTS PERSONALITY

INTRODUCTION
The argument or problem over school dress codes and school uniform policies continues to echo
in the meeting rooms, administrative offices and classroom throughout the country. Historically, uniforms
have been limited to private and parochial schools (Hughes, 2013). According to the US Department of
Education, wearing a uniform can decrease the risk of violence and theft, instill discipline and help
school. School claims that when students come in uniforms, it improves discipline and leads to academic
gains. Research shows mixed results, it’s true that some studies shows a reduction in the incidence of
misbehavior. But then, here are others that shows an increase in student’s suspensions. In the study of
Shutter in 2010, middle and high school students experienced a significant increase in suspensions
because of not following the school policy about school uniform. School uniform may also serve as
symbol of commitment to academic achievement. Many school leaders share the view that, by wearing a
school uniform, students gain skills in presentation which ultimately lead to improved discipline in the
classroom. Uniforms can also improve attendance rates, and prevent students from forming gangs and
groups that could result in further bad behaviors. (Brunsma, 2014).

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
This will serve as a way for students, schools or institutions, as well as parents for them to know
and understand that strict implementation of school uniform helps the students to improve their
personality, behavior, confidence and as well as their academic performance and self-discipline.

PLAN OF ACTION
To achieve the objectives and goals of the study, the researchers will conduct a Focused Group
Discussion as the method of collecting the data and culminating which is a seminar entitled: “Self-
Development” for the students to be more aware and knowledgeable about the school strict
implementation of school uniform.

DESIRED OUTCOME
The goal of the study is to know and understand why the school implemented the strict
enforcement of school uniform and what are the potential impact of it to the student’s personality, also to
appreciate and be aware to this implementation. How students’ behavior, personality, maturity
transitioned through this school policy.

NECESSARY RESOURCES
The researcher will use guide questions to conduct interviews and a voice recorder to record the
statement/answers of the respondent. The researchers will use a considerable amount of time in order to
conduct the interview and analyze the data gathered.
In terms of tangible resources, the researchers will use electronics such as laptops, cellphones,
computers and printers to collect and compile all the data gathered. The whole data will be printed on a
specific size and kind of paper and will be placed tidy in a folder.

CONCLUSION
School complete uniform were not exceptionally prevalent in Good Samaritan Colleges however,
encouraging students to follow the strict implementation of wearing school uniform policy for them to
have potential to improve such practices.
