ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We would like to thank our teacher as a group for the assigning of this insightful topic. It has helped us to
get well informed and up to date on the current situation of the marketing world. This assignment has
helped us notice how today’s market is vastly integrated with technologies and how today’s work
environment has become easier and efficient.
Introduction
Marketing Information System
A marketing information system, or an MIS, is a system for gathering, storing, analyzing and distributing
valuable marketing data to help marketers make better decisions. The input of a marketing information
system focuses on collecting relevant internal and external data to analyze and interpret. The output of a
marketing information system relates to distributing the findings to all essential internal marketing team
members and managers. Marketers can then use the data to make more informed marketing decisions to
promote the success of the business.

Key reasons why MIS is important in modern marketing:

 MIS helps companies create highly targeted and personalized marketing campaigns, leading to
improved customer satisfaction and loyalty. By providing detailed customer profiles and
behavior patterns,
 With access to real-time market data, companies can quickly adapt their marketing strategies to
changing customer needs and market trends.
 MIS facilitates informed decision-making by providing quantitative evidence about customer
preferences, competitor analysis, and market opportunities, reducing the risk of making
inaccurate marketing choices.
 By analyzing campaign performance data, companies can identify what marketing tactics are
working best and optimize their campaigns for maximum ROI.
 Companies that effectively utilize MIS can gain a competitive edge by understanding their
customers better than competitors and responding to market changes faster.

How does salesforce software support marketing processes such as data

analysis, campaign management, decision making or customer
relationship management?
A business might be collecting data on customers from touchpoints across their purchase journey. This
can include sales data like product preferences and purchase history, demographic and behavioural data,
social media engagement, and more. The role of data analytics is to organise this information and give
insights that help shape engagement with individual customers. Salesforce offers several tools to help
analyze data and act on it. Reports and dashboards are built into Salesforce. It helps create standard
reports on single or multiple related data model objects (DMOs) or Calculated Insights, or build a custom
report type on DMO fields and records from Data Cloud. Visualize KPIs and trends from Data Cloud
reports in dashboards.

Campaign management software is a tool that enables you to plan, execute, and monitor your marketing
campaigns all in one place. It’s like having a digital command center where you can keep track of
everything from email blasts to social media posts to be sure that nothing falls through the cracks. A
campaign is a little bit like a folder or a container for related marketing efforts. A campaign record helps
you group marketing assets and interested customers together, so that you can organize your plans, or
look back at what you’ve accomplished. Marketers use campaigns to analyze how many leads they’re
generating, how much pipeline they’re building, and how many deals they’re closing as a result of
marketing efforts. Salesforce campaigns allow you to bridge the gap between marketing and sales by
promoting successes to internal stakeholders. You can define campaign types, organize assets, add
members, create campaign hierarchies, and track and report on campaign performance.

From sales to marketing, customer service to operations, every department can harness the power of
Salesforce to gain valuable insights for informed decision making.

Data collection: Salesforce Data Cloud can integrate with various sources to collect organization data in
real time, such as customer interactions, sales transactions, and social media activity. The Salesforce data
model provides a robust mechanism to store and analyze this data within Salesforce.

Data analysis: Salesforce dashboards, reports, and CRM analytics are useful for analyzing data collected
from various sources to identify patterns and actionable insights.

Decision-making: Salesforce can help businesses to make decisions based on data by providing insights
into customer behavior, market trends, and sales performance and suggesting Next Best Actions as well
as predictive intelligence. It is available to all salesforce clouds, including the Sales, service, marketing,
and experience cloud.

Salesforce CRM is a cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) solution that helps
businesses manage their sales, marketing, and customer service processes. It offers customizable features
such as contact management, lead tracking, order processing, analytics tools, and more. With Salesforce
CRM you can easily track leads from initial contact to close of sale; create campaigns to generate new
business; monitor customer activity; automate tasks for improved efficiency; and gain insights into your
customers' needs with powerful reporting capabilities.

6
Salesforce makes it simple to communicate with customers by providing a host of features, such as
customer-specific communication templates, automated workflows, customer segmentation tools to target
specific groups of customers with personalized messaging, integrated contact center solutions, real-time
notifications and alerts that keep customers up-to-date on their orders or purchases and more.

Identify And Interact With New Potential Customers

In today's fast-paced business world, it is essential to identify and interact with potential customers to
ensure the growth and success of your company. With the advanced technology of Salesforce CRM,
businesses can streamline their sales efforts and connect with new leads more effectively than ever
before. Through the powerful tools and features offered by Salesforce CRM, businesses can capture and
analyze valuable data to understand customer behaviors and preferences, track sales progress, and
effectively manage customer relationships. By leveraging these capabilities, businesses can build lasting
connections with potential customers and drive revenue growth, ensuring a thriving future for their
company.

Understanding of Consumer Needs and Behavior

As businesses shift their focus towards understanding the needs and behavior of their customers, the use
of Salesforce CRM has become increasingly prevalent. By collecting and analyzing customer data,
companies can gain insights into the evolving needs and preferences of their audience, allowing them to
tailor their products and services accordingly. Furthermore, understanding consumer behavior has become
a crucial aspect of successful marketing campaigns.

With Salesforce CRM, businesses can create personalized campaigns that effectively reach their target
audience, ultimately resulting in higher customer retention and increased sales. Overall, the understanding
of consumer needs and behavior has become a fundamental element of modern business strategy, and the
use of Salesforce CRM is proving to be an essential tool in achieving this goal.

Accessible from Anywhere

Salesforce CRM is a powerful tool that provides a variety of benefits to businesses of all sizes. One of its
greatest advantages is its accessibility, allowing users to access critical information from anywhere in the
world, at any time. This is particularly important for organizations with remote teams, or those that
operate across multiple locations. With Salesforce CRM, users can easily update customer records,
manage sales pipelines, and generate reports, all from a single, secure platform. The ease of accessibility
ensures that businesses have the flexibility to work effectively, no matter where they are located. With
Salesforce CRM, businesses can confidently scale their operations and achieve their goals with ease.

Omnichannel assistance

Omnichannel is a neologism (a new word) describing a business strategy. omnichannel is defined as

seamless and effortless, high-quality customer experiences that occur within and between contact
channels.

Omnichannel assistance is becoming increasingly important for businesses to provide exceptional

customer service. With the rise of online shopping and social media, customers expect to interact with
brands seamlessly across various channels. Salesforce CRM offers a powerful solution to help businesses
achieve this goal by unifying customer data and providing integrated communication tools. This allows

7
for a personalized experience that meets customers where they are, whether that be through email, social
media, or in-store interactions. By leveraging omnichannel assistance through Salesforce CRM,
businesses can increase customer satisfaction and loyalty, resulting in greater sales and growth
opportunities.

Never lose touch with customers

In today's fiercely competitive market, businesses can't afford to lose touch with their customers.
Harnessing the power of technology is one way to achieve this, and a Salesforce CRM can help take
customer relations to the next level. By centralizing customer data, you can gain a deeper understanding
of your customer's needs and preferences, providing companies with valuable insights that can inform
about sales and marketing strategies. A Salesforce CRM not only streamlines customer management
processes but also enhances brand's reputation by showing customers that companies care about their
needs and are invested in creating strong, long-lasting relationships.

Quick response times

Quick response times can make all the difference in the world of sales. Immediate follow-up and timely
communication can elevate the entire customer experience, increasing the likelihood of repeat business
and boosting overall customer satisfaction. The implementation of Salesforce CRM software serves as a
centralized platform for managing customer information, streamlining communication, and automating
time-consuming tasks. With Salesforce, sales teams can respond to customer inquiries promptly and
efficiently, improving overall productivity and driving business success.

Salesforce integration with other systems or tools

Salesforce integration is a way of bringing together two or more systems to optimize workflows. This
way, you don't have to jump from platform to platform. Instead, you get a unified and structured
experience across multiple apps, which is particularly important for all business teams. Salesforce
integration can help with:

 Improved efficiency
 Accurate data
 Better customer insights

Types of Salesforce Integration

Generally, there are three most common Salesforce integration types: point-to-point, hub-and-spoke, and
Enterprise Service Bus integration.

1. Point-to-point integration

Point-to-point system integration, also referred to as one-to-one integration, involves the transmission of
messages between systems through a 1-1 relationship. For instance, consider a sales application that sends
new order information to a billing system, a shipping application, and a tracking system, each as a distinct
integration. If you require the shipping and tracking systems to communicate with each other, an
additional integration must be set up.

pros

8
 Straightforward and easy to implement
 Quick to set up

cons

 Expensive to build and maintain

 Lack of reusability
 Inflexibility in accommodating changes

2. Hub-and-spoke integration

This integration method involves a centralized system that serves as a hub for facilitating communication
between other connected systems. This hub is responsible for routing all traffic, thus eliminating the need
for multiple connections for point-to-point integration.

pros

 A single point of control and management for all integrations

 Asynchronous communication between systems

cons

 A single point of failure

 Initial investments

3. Enterprise service bus integration

The Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) is a more evolved version of the hub-and-spoke integration
architecture model. ESB uses a powerful integration engine to establish connections between various
software applications and systems. ESB is particularly useful if you need to manage your 'messages' in a
certain way.

For example, if you need to route a message from one system to another or multiple systems, ESB can
help you achieve this. Additionally, it can assist you if you need to orchestrate the order of transactions.
For instance, you may require a series of events to occur in a specific order, and ESB can ensure that
these events occur according to your desired sequence. It can also transform messages from one system to
another, especially if the destination system doesn't speak the same language as the source system.
Finally, this architecture can provide robust security features, including authentication and authorization,
to ensure your system meets all necessary security requirements.

pros

 Easy application deployment

 Better monitoring and governance
 Easy service reusability

cons

 A single point of failure

9
Salesforce Integration Patterns
Integrating with other apps is essential when using Salesforce, but each scenario is unique. Developers
must address common requirements and challenges by following specific design patterns.

The integration patterns are as follows:

Remote Process Invocation—Request and Reply: Salesforce initiates a procedure on a distant system and
remains in a waiting state until the procedure is completed. Upon completion, it monitors the progress by
analyzing the response received from the remote system.

Remote Process Invocation—Fire and Forget: A process is started by Salesforce in a remote system using
this pattern. However, unlike the request-and-reply pattern, Salesforce does not wait for the process to
complete. Instead, the remote process receives a request from Salesforce, and when the request is
accepted, Salesforce regains control.

Batch Data Synchronization: Data saved on the Salesforce Lightning platform is refreshed or created to
reflect modifications transferred to an external system. The updates are carried out in batches in both
directions.

Remote Call-in: A remote system can manage data stored on the Salesforce Lightning platform through a
call-in method, which enables the creation, retrieval, updating, and deletion of the data.

User Interface Update Based on Data Changes: The Salesforce user interface should be updated
automatically due to changes in Salesforce data.

Data Virtualization: Real-time access to external data is available in Salesforce, eliminating the need to
store data in Salesforce and then match it up with data from another system.

Salesforce Integration Tools

 MuleSoft / Middleware: MuleSoft acts as middleware, enabling Salesforce to connect
with a wide range of systems, such as SAP, Oracle, AWS, and others. MuleSoft creates
APIs and data pipelines that facilitate real-time or scheduled data exchange between
Salesforce and external platforms.

Example: A company integrates Salesforce with its ERP system (SAP) to synchronize inventory data.
Sales reps in Salesforce can now check live inventory availability during order creation.

 Salesforce Connect: Allows Salesforce to access external data sources in real-time

without replicating data into Salesforce. Using OData protocols, Salesforce queries and
displays virtual data from systems like Workday or SAP HANA.

Example: A retail company needs to access inventory levels stored in SAP HANA for its Salesforce
dashboards. Instead of duplicating data, Salesforce Connect fetches live inventory data when required.

 Heroku Connect: Synchronizes Salesforce data with Heroku Postgres databases. Heroku
Connect establishes a real-time link between Salesforce objects and Heroku’s Postgres
database, keeping both systems in sync.

Example: A business using Heroku for its e-commerce app integrates Heroku with Salesforce to sync
order details, ensuring customers’ purchase history is available in Salesforce.

10
 Platform Events: Enables event-driven integration by publishing and subscribing to
events between systems. Salesforce sends notifications (events) when specific actions
occur, such as updates to an order. External systems subscribe to these events to stay
updated in real time.

Example: When an order status changes in Salesforce, a Platform Event triggers SAP to update its
production schedule instantly.

 Customer 360: Provides a unified view of customer interactions by consolidating data

from multiple systems. Salesforce Customer 360 uses a common B2C data model to
integrate data from Salesforce and external platforms like marketing tools or e-commerce
systems.

Example: A company integrates Salesforce with its marketing automation tool to track customer
interactions across platforms, enabling personalized campaigns.

 Salesforce APIs: Connects Salesforce to other systems using REST or SOAP APIs for
data exchange. External systems call Salesforce APIs to create, update, or retrieve
records and vice versa.

Example: A payment gateway calls Salesforce APIs to update payment statuses, ensuring sales reps see
real-time transaction updates.

The benefits and challenges of using salesforce software

Benefits of salesforce:
o Salesforce’s built-in AI, known as Einstein, seamlessly integrates with its platform to deliver
intelligent automation. This innovative technology empowers businesses to make smarter
decisions, enhance customer experiences, and drive productivity. Salesforce Einstein can also
analyze customer data to provide personalized product and service recommendations based on
previous purchases, location, or industry.
o Salesforce helps track lead generation, lead conversion and the quality of your leads (i.e., whether
they're looking for solutions to problems). Qualify your prospects based on their needs and
objectives not just on their initial contact with your company — to ensure only those most likely
to buy from you get through your sales reps.
o Increase Lead Qualification With Email Tracking by allowing you to monitor all emails sent to
leads within the system. It can track lead progress and identify which leads are advancing and
which ones require more attention. Moreover, observing email open rates, link clicks, or any
other interaction with the email helps you gauge lead interest levels. For instance, if a potential
customer opens your email but doesn't click on any of the links, it indicates a lack of interest in
what you're selling.
o Manage Customer Relationships by giving you an overview of all customer interactions and the
details of their last interaction with your brand. Its also a convenient way to store customer
contact information and track every interaction you've had with them, rather than relying on a
spreadsheet or manual list.
o Salesforce provides in-depth analytics through its Einstein Analytics feature. It provides users
access to valuable information that can help them make smarter business decisions. They can
leverage interactive dashboards that let users visualize data in real-time. For example, sales

12
managers can monitor team performance through dynamic graphics and charts. This kind of
interactive approach can help users quickly understand complex data and areas for improvement.
Einstein Analytics is also great at finding patterns and trends in large datasets. For instance,
marketing teams can analyze customer behavior over time to predict future purchasing patterns.
This helps you adjust your marketing strategies proactively and make campaigns more effective
and engaging.
o Improve Collaboration Between Sales and Marketing because all team members have access to
an organized database of customer and campaign information, allowing them to easily track
progress and stay organized.
o Access With a Mobile App Salesforce provides web and mobile apps, which can be accessed
using any desktop or mobile device (through the Salesforce mobile app). Since it is cloud-based
software, it can be used it anytime and from any place as long as there is an internet connection. It
is especially important for team members who frequently travel or work remotely and need
access to business data for their client cases. Additionally, sensitive data stored in the protected
cloud will be more secure than if they were held on local servers.
o Salesforce Increases Revenue because data processing and storage are automated, which lets
employees dedicate their time to nurturing client relationships and increasing sales and revenue.

Challenges of salesforce:
o Implementing salesforce software is a hard task because migrating data from existing systems to
Salesforce can be complex and time-consuming, and customizing and integrating Salesforce with
existing systems can be challenging.
o Managing and maintaining data quality (ensuring data entered into Salesforce is accurate and up-
to-date can be a challenge) and security (ensuring that sensitive data is protected and complying
with regulatory requirements can be difficult).
o Salesforce demands high cost. Salesforce implementation can be costly in terms of the initial
implementation and ongoing maintenance and upgrades.
o Improperly configured security settings can lead to data breaches or unauthorized access to
sensitive information.
o Since the customization is very difficult to do and it isn’t always the most user-friendly
[Link] may make mistakes when entering or manipulating data in Salesforce, leading to
errors in the system.

The potential future impacts of salesforce:

for significant economic impact. Salesforce has been moving toward creating solutions tailored to specific
industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, manufacturing). This specialization will likely continue, as
companies in various sectors demand more customized solutions to address their unique challenges.
Salesforce could become even more deeply integrated into specialized workflows, increasing its influence
across different industries.

13
Salesforce's growing suite of tools enables companies to offer highly personalized experiences to their
customers. Future developments may allow businesses to deliver more sophisticated, real-time, and
