What is NTSE ?

NTSE exam is the National level scholarship program by Govt. of India and most
venerated exam of India at 10th level.

The scholarships are awarded to the candidates for pursuing courses in

science and social science up to doctoral level and in professional courses like
medicine and engineering up to second-degree level subject to the fulfilment
of the conditions.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidate must have scored a minimum of 60%

marks in Class IX. The candidate must be of
recognized school in the respective State or Union
Territory.
NTSE Eligibility
• The Open Distance Learning (ODL) program students
Criteria (Stage 1)
will also be considered eligible if they are below 18
years of age as on July 1, YYYY (the same year in which
candidate giving the exam) and are not employed
when they appear for Class X examination.

NTSE Eligibility • Only students who manage to clear NTSE Stage I will

NTSE Scholarships
NTSE scholars are provided with the scholarship of Rs 1250 per month for Class
XI and XII and Rs 2000 per month for graduation and higher studies by Indian
government.

• NDA National Defence Academy Exam organized by UPSC gives preference

to NTSE scholars.
• Renowned Engineering College for Information Technology such as IIIT-
Hyderabad offers 15 seats to NTSE scholars. This institute is considered
equivalent to IIT-Bombay.
• NTSE scholars will have upper edge in Foreign University admissions.
• Preference in various Public and Private sector Jobs.
• IIIT-Delhi, an Engineering College under Government of Delhi, gives 'bonus
marks' to NTSE scholars.

Exam Details
NTSE is a two level exam – State and National Level. Each State/UT conducts its
own examination at state level. They have the autonomy to lay down their own
norms for the purpose of determining the eligibility of the candidates and
charge a nominal form fee.

State level exam is just a qualifying exam and its marks are not considered in
marking of national level exam.

Qualifying Marks and Cutoff

NTSE releases the minimum passing marks as well as the cutoff marks. NTSE cut
marks is the minimum qualifying marks required by students to qualify the NTSE
stage 1 exam. In addition to NTSE cutoff marks, students will have to secure
qualifying marks in SAT and MAT papers separately to pass the exam.

The minimum passing marks are static and do not change every year, unlike
cutoff marks.

NTSE Form Filling
The steps to fill the NTSE application form are as follows:

• Get the application form from the respective State/UT Liaison officers or
download them from the official SCERT website (if available).

• Fill in the application form by providing basic details such as your name,
date of birth, caste, gender, postal address, the financial income of your
family, and academic details. It should be done in your handwriting if it is
offline.

• Affix a recent passport-size photograph along with your signature at the

space provided. Upload a scanned copy of these documents if it is being
done through online mode.

• Pay the application fee as prescribed by the respective states. (either

online or offline). The fees may vary from state to state.

• Get the application forms attested by your respective school

Principal/Head.

• Verify the details and submit the attested forms (either offline or online) to
respective LO’s.

The admit cards will either be available online or will be posted to your postal
address as mentioned in the forms by concerned SCERT authorities.

NTSE Application Fees 2022

The application fees vary from state to state and can be done either through
online or offline mode. Typically, it varies between Rs 50 to Rs 250.

There is no prescribed syllabus for the NTS examination. However, the standard of
items shall be conforming to the level of Classes IX and X.

Number of Scholarships
Around 2000 scholarships are provided on the basis of the final result of the NTSE
exam. Before that State/UTs select students for stage 2 exam on the basis of
available state level quota.
