CO₂ Release Procedure
This procedure must be followed in case of fire in a CO₂-protected space. Adhering
to these steps ensures safety and effective fire suppression. Always prioritize
personnel safety before releasing CO₂ gas.
1. 1. Shut down all machinery, fuel supplies, and ventilation systems in the affected
space. Ensure all personnel are evacuated and close all doors, ventilators, and
other openings.
2. 2. Conduct a muster to ensure everyone is accounted for. Do not release CO₂ if
anyone is missing and potentially inside the protected space.
3. 3. Open the valve release cabinet for the fire-affected compartment. Confirm that
the alarm sounds and the ventilation fans stop. Pull both isolation handles
downward.
4. 4. Retrieve the key from the valve release cabinet and use it to open the supply
cabinet.
5. 5. Open the valve on one of the pilot CO₂ cylinders. The system will automatically
release CO₂ by opening the required cylinders and the distribution valve after a
delay.
6. 6. Go to the CO₂ room to verify the correct cylinders and the distribution valve
for the area are open. Manually open them if they haven’t activated.
7. 7. After 10 minutes, close the pilot cylinder handwheel valve. Once the pressure
gauge in the supply cabinet reads zero, close both pilot isolation valves.
8. 8. Allow time for structural cooling before entering the space. Ventilate the area
thoroughly to remove CO₂ gas.
WARNING:
Do not enter a CO₂-flooded space without wearing a breathing apparatus. Failure to
comply can result in serious injury or death.
