Stay-at-home parents should be paid for their work.

NEGATIVE

Definition - We define a stay-at-home parent as parents who are caregivers for their children
and the home. and do not have an outside income paying job
Team Line - Why pay stay-at-home parents when we can help other people in crisis

Arguments
- When some people choose not to work or to work part-time, it does impact the economy
- Government should not be taking money from citizens for stay-at-home parents to get
paid. There are many other people that work a lot and still do not have many to support
themselves and their family
- Government should be working on helping homeless people instead of paying
stay-at-home parents

- Where would the money come from? The government does not have money to pay
stay-at-home parents and taxpayers would definitely not agree to it.

Cost to the Individual

- People without a job such as stay-at-home parents has an immediate impact on the
standard of living for them and their family
- The average savings rate in the U.S. had been drifting down towards zero (and
sometimes below), and there are anecdotal reports that the average person is only a few
weeks away from serious financial trouble without a paying job.

Cost to Society
- Unemployment often leads to increased calls of protectionism and severe restrictions on
immigration.
- Stay-at-home parents would add to this cause and paying them for essentially not
working will not be beneficial to society.
Rebuttals
- When they say they deserved to be paid because of their work supporting the children
and taking care of the house, say that other jobs do a lot more in their job and barely get
paid. Also, state that it would be harmful to the economy because most of the money will
go into the stay at home parents and the jobs that require more work and pay less will be
harmed a lot.

1st Speaker
G’day adjudicators and the opposition
Before I begin my speech.. Today our topic is should stay-at-home parents should be paid for
their work. We define stay-at-home parents as parents who are caregivers for their children and
the home. and do not have an outside job with a steady income. We disagree with this
statement. The idea of paying stay-at-home parents is absolutely ignorant. There are many
problems with paying stay-at-home parents including, the negative impact on the economy
through an overload of stay-at-home parents without a job, how stay at home parents give a bad
influence on children and most importantly where the money would come from which the
second speaker will discuss. However first of all, we would like to point out some flaws in the
opposition's argument…

Stay-at-home parents have a detrimental influence on children. If children are restricted to only
seeing their parents working at home and not working a proper job while getting paid, children
will see their parents getting paid for staying-at-home and will most defi
