Vipaka :-
It is a metabolic End Effect
Or
Taste after the digestion
After the intake of food of different tastes
It gets digested by the digestive enzymes
under the influence of Jatharagni and
undergoes transformation in the form of
another taste
That Metabolic End Effect or the taste after
digestion is called as Vipaka
Types of Vipaka
Madhura Vipaka
Amla Vipaka
Katu Vipaka

स्िादु- madhura rasa, पटु- Lavana rasa
पच्यिे –digestion
Swadhu and lavana both becomes Madhura Vipaka
Amla(sour) Rasa becomes into Amla vipaka Itself
Tikta, Katu and kasaya becomes Katu vipaka
Commentry:-
Vipaka is also known as Antya paka
Vipaka is not a rasa because it cannot be perceived by
Rasa undergo metabolic changes and Vipaka is The
ultimate metabolic End Effect of dravya in the body.
Formation of Vipaka is a Long process. The ultimate change
of food which is initially perceptible as a Taste is vipaka,
but This change occurs only after passing Through various
stage
Applied aspects of Vipaka
According to Ayurvedic concepts,
Madhura Vipaka (sweet post digestive effect) causes
Srishta Vinmutrata (easy excretion) i.e. Increase in
quantity and frequency of urine and stool,
Elevates Kapha dosha and increases Shukra dhatu
while Katu Vipaka (pungent post digestive effect)
causes Baddha vinmutrata (difficulty in excretion) i.e.
Decrease in quantity and frequency of stool and
urine, elevates Vata dosha and decreases Shukra
dhatu
Vipaka which deals with the digestion, assimilation,
metabolism, absorption and bio-transformation of
ingested drug or food, it says about what body does
with drugs.
Relation between Rasa and Vipaka

The actions of vipāka (metabolic end-effect) in the body
are similar to that of rasa (taste).
That means the substances having madhura, amla and kațu
vipaka will act according to the taste of those substances
Drug action depends on either rasa, guņa,
vīrya, vipāka or prabhāva

Some drugs will act by their tastes, some others by their
qualities, some by their potency some other by vipāka and still
others by their special effect known as prabhāva.
The action of a drug with contradictory guņās
Among the different factors such as taste, quality, potency etc.
Whichever is more powerful that makes the actions of others
insignificant
In case of co-existence of opposing factors the weaker one is
overlooked by the stronger and comes into force.
Natural order of strength of rasa and others:
रसां ग्िपाकस्िौ िीयं प्रभािस्िान्तयपोिग्ि ।
बलसाम्ये रसादीिाग््ग्ि िै सग्गमकां बल् ।।
When rasa, vipāka, vīrya and prabhāvas are in equal strength
vipāka defeats rasa
vipāka and rasa together defeated by vīrya
prabhāva defeats all of them
This is the natural order of strength.
* Eg. Honey consists of madhura rasa and kațu vipāka. Though madhura
rasa is capable to mitigate vāta due to the dominance of katu vipāka it is
increases vāta. Here the rasa is dominated by vipāka. *
Even though the meat of buffalo is having madhura rasa and madhura
vipāka they will be dominated by uşņa vīrya and aggravates pitta.
