Does the word have two
syllables?
Do you hear a short vowel
sound in the first syllable?
Do you hear one consonant
sound between the first
vowel and the second vowel?
Then double the middle Rab+bit not
consonant. rab+it
In a two syllable word, if the first
syllable has a short vowel and there is
only one consonant sound between the
first and second vowel, then double
the middle consonant
Many words that are not from
Germanic origin do not follow the
rabbit rule
Examples :
Camel, robin, lemon,
melon, seven, cabin, medal,
river, topic, etc
Draw a smiling face if the word follows the
rabbit rule else draw star
