ABSTRACT
According to the investigation in India, nearly 25% of the road accidents are
caused by two wheelers. The foremost causes for the fatalities are due to drunken
driving, rash driving, and drowsiness due to long drive. The aim is to build an
interesting smart helmet that protects us from accidents and indicates the accident-
prone area. Here we are using various sensors to build the smart helmet. To detect
alcohol consumption of the rider we use Alcohol sensors. In order to check a
rider's helmet, an infrared sensor can be used. Vibration detector is also added to
the helmet to indicate the harsh hitting of the helmet during an accident .

WORKING
If the switch is pressed after starting the bike, it feeds a logic level 1 to the input of the transmitter
through an encoder ht12e. If alcohol is detected in the mq3 alcohol sensor, it feeds a logic level 0
and that 0 logic level is received by the receiver.
When the biker ON the switch, logic level 1 is received by the receiver which gets decoded by the
ht12d decoder and triggers the microcontroller and the motor gets on. When alcohol is detected
the logic level 0 ta received and the motor goes off. When the vibration sensor gets triggered for
an accident, GPS and GSM both get ON and SMS is sent along with the biker's location.
4.3 Microcontroller:
In the microcontroller, when logic signal 1 is triggered the motor driver turns the motor on. When
the vibration sensor is triggered, the microcontroller is executed as well as GPS and GSM.

solar or wind power.
6. Emission Reduction: Aim to minimize the carbon footprint of the Ride Safe vehicles,
both in production and operation.
7. Carbon Offsetting: Explore options for carbon offset programs to neutralize any
unavoidable emissions.
[Link] and Policy Impacts: Successful safety projects may influence the
development of new regulations and policies aimed at improving overall safety standards in
the transportation sector.
The Neo 6M GPS module is critical to the Smart helmet's communication system by providing precise location data. It interfaces with the microcontroller via UART protocol to transmit latitude, longitude, and time information. This data is crucial in emergencies, as it allows the GSM module to send precise location details to emergency services, enhancing rescue operations' swiftness and accuracy . Its compact design and power efficiency make it suitable for continuous positioning needs in mobile applications.
The Smart helmet enhances rider safety by implementing a system where the vehicle's ignition won't start without wearing the helmet, thereby ensuring compliance with legal requirements like the (Section 129) Act which mandates protective headgear . It also supports real-time accident alerts and injury mitigation via sensors and communication modules to provide immediate assistance, crucial in the 'golden hours' following an accident .
The GSM SIM800L module enables the Smart helmet to connect to mobile networks, allowing for voice calls, SMS, and data services. This connectivity allows the helmet to send alerts and location data in the event of an accident, driven by the vibration sensor which triggers the GSM module via the microcontroller . It operates on multiple frequency bands and supports basic communication protocols, facilitating robust and reliable communication during emergencies .
Biometric sensors in the Smart helmet enhance user safety by continuously monitoring vital health metrics such as heart rate or other stress indicators during physically demanding activities . This data provides immediate feedback on the user's physical condition, helping detect any anomalies or signs of distress early, thus allowing for preventive actions or alerts to ensure the rider's well-being while facilitating optimal performance during their journey.
Augmented reality features in the Smart helmet enhance user engagement by overlaying digital information onto the user's field of view, offering navigation guidance and displaying critical data in real-time, which is particularly useful in industrial or military settings . AR capabilities not only provide practical data for navigation but also assist in maintaining the rider's attention on the road, thereby improving overall safety.
The design of the Smart helmet is guided by principles of user-centricity, customization, and adaptability. These principles ensure that the helmet is comfortable and fits diverse user needs and environments—from recreational sports to military applications—while incorporating features like Bluetooth communication, AR heads-up displays, and biometric monitoring. Such designs make the helmets not only technically advanced but also more effective in real-world use by targeting practical usability and safety enhancement .
Developers face multiple challenges when implementing augmented reality in Smart helmets for diverse environments. These include ensuring the AR overlay is functional under variable lighting conditions, managing power consumption for prolonged use, fine-tuning the graphics processing speed to avoid lags, and ensuring the display doesn't obscure the real-world view, all while maintaining a lightweight and comfortable design . Customization and adaptive capacity for each specific application, whether for recreational sports or industrial tasks, also require sophisticated development efforts.
The vibration sensor (SW-420) is integral to the helmet's emergency response system as it senses any strong impacts indicative of an accident. Once such an event is detected, the sensor sends a signal to the Arduino microcontroller, which then triggers the GSM module to send emergency alerts with GPS coordinates, thus facilitating timely medical assistance . This quick response is crucial in reducing fatalities by ensuring swift communication during critical times post-accident.
The use of Arduino Mega in the Smart helmet offers several benefits, such as its ample I/O pins which facilitate the connection of multiple sensors and modules, including NRF, GSM, and GPS, crucial for sophisticated operational functions . However, limitations include its relatively large form factor which could constrain compact helmet designs, and potential challenges in power consumption management given its capabilities. These factors necessitate careful integration planning to balance functionality with agility and energy efficiency.
The single channel relay module within the Smart helmet is pivotal in controlling the engine's startup process. When the correct criteria are met (like wearing the helmet), the relay receives a signal to engage the 12V motor connected to the vehicle's engine, allowing it to start. If conditions suggest impaired ability (e.g., alcohol detection via MQ-3 sensor), it can disengage the motor, preventing vehicle operation , thereby enhancing safety by restricting operation under unsafe conditions.
