Standards of Philippine Citizenship
- Parents are citizens of the Philippines.
- Those born before January 17, 1973, with Filipino Mothers
- Naturalization

Duties and Obligations of Citizens:


● To be loyal to the Republic - faith and confidence in the Republic, and respect
customs, tradition. Be a proud Filipino.

● To defend the State - State provides benefits and protection, so citizens must protect
the state

● To contribute to the development and welfare of the State - paying taxes,


maintaining peace and order

● Upholding the Constitution and obeying laws - Disregarding rules will cause the
country to collapse

● To cooperate with duly constituted authorities

● To exercise rights responsibly and with due regard for the rights of others
● To engage in gainful work - to provide basic needs.

● To register and vote

How to Become Good Citizens:

- Derived from the Preamble of the Philippine Constitution 1987; We the sovereign
Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane
society and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations,
promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to
ourselves and our prosperity, the blessings of independence and democracy under
the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace, to
ordain and promulgate this Constitution.

Basic Values of the Filipino People:

Values, Latin ‘“valere;” measure the worth of something, are ideas and norms man considers
relevant and good. Important to understand human behavior, conflicts caused by differences in
value.

- It is a personal role that one plays in the general drama of life.
- Understanding selfhood certain moral obligations arise. A person should see that life is
lived to its fullest

● 15 to 30 years old (according to RA. 8044; Youth in Nation Building Act)

Constitution Article II Section 13 states that the state recognizes the contribution of youth in
nation-building and gives the youth protection.

Elihu Root theorized that you will meet two people in this world: a.) one brings you down, b.)
helps you rise.

A Leader is an individual who helps everyone around them to rise and succeed.

Leadership is a lot of things:


● Ability to persuade others to seek defined objective
● Ability to bring success

● Giving Vision - gives a clear idea of what he wants to do. strength to persist in the face
