Developing Cooling Method

Without using electricity

By Group 1
Through this project we will explore an
eco-friendly and sustainable cooling
system by using water and clay .
WHY DO WE NEED A COOLING
ALTERNATIVE ?
Electricity Dependency: current cooling systems are primarily
dependent on electricity, raising sustainability concerns.
Cost Implication: electricity costs can be burdening on users,
especially in remote regions.
Environmental Impact: current cooling methods contribute to
environmental degradation, necessitating alternatives.
Need for Innovation: there is a pressing need for innovative
cooling methods that utilize natural resources like water and
clay.
Eco-Friendly Approach: utilizes natural resources to provide
sustainable cooling system.
Cost-Effective Solution: minimize expenses by using inexpensive
materials. example- water and clay.
Sustainable Practices: promotes environmental sustainability by
reducing reliance on electricity.
Innovative Cooling Design: incorporates unique designs of clay
to enhance cooling efficiency.
Why Use Clay and Water?
Historical examples of non-electric cooling:
Evaporative cooling methods: In ancient Egypt, people
utilized evaporative cooling techniques to combat extreme
heat, using water and natural materials.
Traditional cooling practices: In India, clay pots filled with
water was used to store cold water and it maintained the
temperature during hot weather.
Materials and the method used

Materials Used: Water and clay plate serve as the primary material for
cooling.
Techniques Used: Utilize evaporative cooling methods that have been
effective for centuries.
Electricity-Free System: Focuses on creating an effective cooling
system without relying on electricity.
current Model
According to our current plan, we will make a wooden box setup which
will be open from one side where the clayey set up will be placed. This
box will have a water tank above it from which the water will
continuously fall over the clayey set up and thus will be wetted
regularly. Wind, on passing through the clay plate, will get cooled as
the water will absorb the heat it had and thus resulting in cooling the
inner system.
Significance of using wood:
wood being a poor conductor of heat will not allow the inner system
to absorb heat from the outer system and thus it will maintain the
inner cool temperature.
OBSERVATIONS DONE :
1. Effect of different sizes of air openings
.
We changed the air openings of the clay to see its effect on the
cooling. We observed that whenever we increased the size the cooling
rate slightly increased, this was due to increased volume of air
entering the set-up.

OBSERVATIONS DONE :
[Link] of the change in temperature outside the setup.
Here Line 1 represents
the temperature
outside the cooling
setup and Line 2
represents the change
in temperature inside
the cooling setup.
There was a variation in the cooling due to the effect of the outside
temperature. we observed the change in temperature inside and
outside the cooling set-up in every 4 hour interval , there was
temperature drop range of 1-3 degrees. The maximum cooling was
observed in the time interval from 12 noon to 4:00 pm.
Benefits and Advantages:

Cost Reduction: Reduces electricity usage, which translates

to significant cost savings for users.
Environmental Sustainability: Promotes sustainability by
effectively lowering the carbon footprint associated with
current cooling methods.
Climate Adaptability: These methods can be adapted to
various climates and regions, making them suitable for areas
with limited resources.
