technology
2. Discuss the main concepts of instructional
technology
3. Identify domains and function of instructional
technology
Assignment:
1. Able to highlight important requirements of the assignment
1.1 The concept of
technology
Many people might use this word to refer to
manufactured objects like computers, telephone,
television etc but it more than that
Technology can also be the application of
knowledge for a practical purpose (Spector,
2012)
.
1.2 Concept of Instruction
Much more than just ‘vomiting,
telling/sharing’ your knowledge to your
students
Many decisions involved including:
1.1 The concept of
technology…
Technology is not a tool but an art or science of
how to use a tool for a purpose (Evans & Nation,
2000)
Technology included tools, processes,
applications, skills and organisation (Seels &
Richey, 1984) ..more than the technical
application of tools, machines, computers,
products and communication system – also
encompass “application of principles of science
in order to solve learning problems..”
1.2 Concept of
Instruction…
Instruction is a multifaceted and complex process
Main purpose of instruction is to create a good
quality learning environment

Instructional Technology
1.4 Domains of the field of Inst Tech
(MDUDE)
Description of each
domain
Description of each
domain (contd.)
Domain of Evaluation
Seels and Richey (1994) state that Instructional
Technology is a multifaceted field drawing skills from
five domains – Management, Design, Utilization,
Development, and Evaluation (M D U D E).
In each domain, they stated a number of elements that
a person who studied the field of Instructional
Technology should be knowledgeable and skilful. For
example, in the Evaluation Domain, the elements are
Problem Analysis, Criterion-reference
measurement, Formative evaluation, and
Summative Evaluation.
Can you describe the knowledge and skills you
need to acquire under the Evaluation Domain
according to Seels and Richey?
Browse through your HPGD3103 course website as
well as your module. Can you point out evidence of
the use of these knowledge and skills?
