Formulation of Integrated Cagayan River
Basin Management and Development
Master Plan. Quezon City, Metro
Manila, Philippines, 2012.[13]
Research Objectives and The study aims to assess flood risks in four
Questions major river basins in the Philippines (Agno,
Cagayan, Mindanao, and Buayan-
Malungon). It uses flood maps for the years
2020 and 2050 to identify the most
vulnerable areas and propose adaptation
strategies to reduce the impact of future
floods.
Hypothesis Flood risks will increase in these river
basins due to climate change, particularly
affecting populated areas, roads, bridges,
and dams.
Research Design and The study uses Geographic Information
Methods System (GIS) software to create flood maps
for 2020 and 2050. It then analyzes the risk
of flooding in built-up areas, roads, and
infrastructure to assess how vulnerable
each basin is.
Major Findings The study shows that the Agno River Basin
has the highest flood risk by 2050, while
Cagayan remains vulnerable in the north.
Flood risks in Mindanao are stable, and
Buayan-Malungon faces very low risk. Agno
and Cagayan are the most flood-prone
areas.
Conclusion The study shows that flood risks will
increase in some areas, especially in the
Agno and Cagayan River Basins. It suggests
adaptation strategies like infrastructure
maintenance, flood barriers, and rainwater
harvesting to reduce future flood impacts.
