Classwork Assignment
(Section of Solids)
1. A hexagonal prism of base of side 40 mm and axis length 80 mm rests on one of its base edges
on the HP. The end containing that edge is inclined at 30° to the HP and the axis is parallel to
VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to the VP and parallel to the HP. The cutting plane bisects
the axis. Draw its front and the sectional top views.
2. A square pyramid of base side 30 mm and altitude 50 mm lies on one of its triangular faces on
the HP with its axis parallel to the VP. It is cut by a vertical plane inclined at 30° to the VP and
meeting the axis at 40 mm from the vertex measured in the plan. Draw the top view, sectional
front view and the true shape of the section.
3 A cone, diameter of base 50 mm and axis 65 mm long. is lying on the HP. on one of its
generators with the axis parallel to the VP. It is cut by a horizontal Section plane 12mm above
the ground. Draw its front view and sectional top view.
4. A square prism having a base with a 40 mm side and a 60 mm long axis rests on its base on
HP. such that one of the vertical faces makes an angle of 30 degrees with VP. A section plane
perpendicular to the VP. Inclined at 45 degrees to the HP. and passing through the axis at a point
20 mm from its top end cuts the prism. Draw its front view, sectional top view.
5. A hexagonal prism, side of base 35 mm and height 75 mm is resting on one of its corners on
HP. with a longer edge containing that corner inclined at 60 degrees to the HP. and rectangular
face parallel to the VP. A horizontal section plane cuts the prism into two halves. Draw the
sectional top view of the cut prism and front view.
6. A cone of base diameter 35 mm and altitude 55 mm is resting on HP on its base. It is cut by a
plane perpendicular to VP and parallel to a contour generator and is 10 mm away from it. Draw
the front view and sectional top view and true shape of the section.
7. A hexagonal prism of base side 25 mm and height 50 mm rests on the HP on one of its ends
with two rectangular faces parallel to the VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to the HP and
inclined at 500 to the VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to HP and inclined at 50 0 to VP at a
distance of 10 mm away from the axis. Draw the top view, sectional front view and true shape of
the section.
8. A right circular cone of base diameter 40 mm and axis length 50 mm rests on its base on HP.
It is cut by a plane perpendicular to the HP and inclined at 55 0 to the VP. The shortest distance
between the cutting plane and the top view of the axis is 10 mm. Draw the top view, sectional
front view and true shape of the section.
9. A pentagonal prism of base side 40 mm and axis length 80 mm is lying on the HP on one of its
rectangular faces with the axis parallel to both HP and VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to
HP and inclined at 300 to VP. The section plane meets the axis at 16 mm from one of its ends.
Draw the top view, sectional front view and true shape of the section.
10. A tetrahedron of side 60mm is resting on HP on one of its faces. It is cut by a plane
perpendicular to the VP, so that the true shape of the cut section is a triangle of base 40mm and
altitude 30mm. Locate the plane and determine the angle of inclination of the VT with the
reference line XY. Draw the sectional top view and true shape of the section.
11. A pentagonal pyramid, base 30 mm side and axis 65 mm long has its base horizontal and an
edge of the base parallel to the V.P. A horizontal section plane cuts it at a distance of 25 mm
above the base. Draw its· front view and sectional top view.
12. A square pyramid, base 40 mm side and axis 65 mm long, has its base on the H.P. and all the
edges of the base equally inclined to the V.P. It is cut by a section plane, perpendicular to the
V.P., inclined at 45° to the H.P. and bisecting the axis. Draw its sectional top view, sectional side
view and true shape of the section.
13. A hexagonal pyramid, base 30 mm side and axis 75 mm long, resting on its base on the HP
with two of its edges parallel to the VP is cut by two section planes, both perpendicular to the
VP. The horizontal section plane cuts the axis at a point 35 mm from the apex. The other plane
which makes an angle of 45° with the HP, also intersects the axis at the same point. A Draw the
front view, sectional top view, true shape of the sections and development of the surface of the
remaining part of the pyramid.
14. A cone, base 75 mm diameter and axis 80 mm long is resting on its base on the H.P. It is cut
by a section plane perpendicular to the VP., inclined at 45° to the H.P. and cutting the axis at a
point 35 mm from the apex. Draw its front view, sectional top view, sectional side view and true
shape of the section.
15. A cone, base 45 mm diameter and axis 55 mm long is resting on the H.P. on its base. It is cut
by a section plane, perpendicular to both the H.P. and the V.P. and 6 mm away from the axis.
Draw its front view, top view and sectional side view.
