Example 1: Seismic Load Calculation for a Single-Story Building

Given:

1. Zone Factor (Z): 0.16

2. Importance Factor (I): 1.0

3. Response Reduction Factor (R): 5.0

4. Weight of Building (W): 1000 kN

Solution:

1. Calculate Design Seismic Coefficient (Ah):

Ah = (Z / 2) * (I / R) = (0.16 / 2) * (1.0 / 5.0) = 0.016

2. Base Shear (Vb):

Vb = Ah * W = 0.016 * 1000 = 16 kN

Final Base Shear for the building is 16 kN.
