2 ASME [Link] Division 1, 2023 Edition Paragraph U-1 Scope ASME-U
Vessels
The requirement apply to the followong
a Refer to Below

1. The Foreword provides the basis for the rules described in this Division.

2, For the scope of this Division, pressure vessels are containers for the
containment of pressure, either internal or external
3. This Division contains mandatory requirements,
specific prohibitions, and nonmandatory guidance for pressure vessel
materials, design, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing, certification,
and pressure relief
b. This Division is divided into three Subsections, Mandatory Appendices, and
Nonmandatory Appendices. Subsection A consists of Part UG, covering the
general requirements applicable to all pressure vessels. Subsection B covers
specific requirements that are applicable to the various methods used in the
fabrication of pressure vessels. It consists of Parts UW, UF,andUB dealing with
welded, forged, and brazed methods, respectively. Subsection C covers specific
requirements applicable to the several classes of materials used in pressure
vessel construction. It consists of Parts UCS, UNF, UHA, UCI, UCL, UCD, UHT,
ULW, ULT,andPart UIG dealing with carbon and low alloy steels, nonferrous
metals, high alloy steels, cast iron, clad and lined material, cast ductile iron,
ferritic steels with properties enhanced by heat treatment, layered
construction, low temperature materials, and impregnated graphite,
respectively. Section II, Part D also contains tables of maximum allowable stress
values for these classes of materials, except for impregnated graphite.

3 Paragraph 1,1 General ASME-U2
(Alternatife Rules) Vessels (Alternatife Rules)
1.1.1 Introduction
[Link] This Division contains mandatory requirements, specific prohibitions,
and nonmandatory guidance for the design, materials, fabrication,
examination, inspection, testing, overpressure protection, and certification of
pressure vessels.
[Link] The Code does not address all aspects of these activities. Those aspects
that are not specifically addressed should not be considered prohibited and
shall be addressed by appropriate engineering judgment. Engineering
judgment shall be consistent with the philosophy of this Division, and such
judgments shall never be used to overrule mandatory requirements or specific
prohibitions of this Division.

Paragraph 1,2 Scope

1.2.1 Overview
[Link] In the scope of this Division, pressure vessels are containers for the
containment of pressure, either internal or external. This pressure may be
obtained from an external source or by the application of heat from a direct or
indirect source as a result of a process, or any combination thereof.
[Link] Vessels with an internal or external design pressure not exceeding 103
kPa (15 psi) and multichambered vessels of which the design pressure on the
common elements does not exceed 103 kPa (15 psi) were not considered
when the rules of this Division were developed and are not considered within
the scope
[Link] The rules of this Division may be used for the construction of the
following pressure vessels. These vessels shall be designated as either a Class 1
or Class 2 vessel in conformance with the User’s Design Specification required
in Part 2

4 Power Piping Paragraph 100 General N/A 3RD Party
Piping
100.1 Scope
Rules for this Code Section have been developed considering the needs for
applications that include piping typically found in electric power generating
stations, in industrial and institutional plants, geothermal heating systems, and
central and district heating and cooling systems.
100.1.1 This Code prescribes requirements for the design, materials,
fabrication, erection, test, inspection, operation, and maintenance of piping
systems. Where service requirements necessitate measures beyond
those required by this Code, such measures shall be specified by the
engineering design.
100.1.2 Power piping systems as covered by this Code apply to all piping and
their component parts except as excluded in para. 100.1.3. They include but
are not limited to steam, water, oil, gas, and air services.

5 Process Piping Paragraph 300 General Statement N/A 3RD Party
Pressure Piping
300.1 Scope
Rules for the Process Piping Code Section B31.3 have been developed
considering piping typically found in petroleum refineries; onshore and
offshore petroleum and natural gas production facilities; chemical,
pharmaceutical, textile, paper, ore processing, semiconductor, and cryogenic
plants; food and beverage processing facilities; and related processing plants
and terminals. 300.1.1 Content and Coverage
300.1.1 Content and Coverage

a) This Code prescribes requirements for materials and components, design,

fabrication, assembly, erection, examination, inspection, and testing of piping.
(b) This Code applies to piping for all fluids, including :
(1) raw, intermediate, and finished chemicals
(2) petroleum products
(3) gas, steam, air, and water
(4) fluidized solids
(5) refrigerants
(6) cryogenic fluids
(c) See Figure 300.1.1 for a diagram illustrating the application of B31.3 piping
at equipment. The joint connecting piping to equipment is within the scope of
B31.3.
