Candidates recognized as 'Best Apprentice' or 'Runner Up Apprentice' in All India Skill Competitions are given preference by being exempted from the written test and directly invited for an interview. If selected, they are inducted as Artisan Grade IV, with the Best Apprentice receiving two increments within the pay scale and the Runner Up starting at the minimum scale .

Candidates must apply online via BHEL's recruitment website and pay a non-refundable fee of Rs.125. After online submission, they should print and send the Acknowledgement Slip and requisite documents to the designated address. Documents required include education certificates, caste/category proof, disability certificates, and if applicable, experience certificates or accolades such as Best Apprentice. They should also ensure a valid email ID is active for communication purposes .

BHEL's selection process involves ranking UR candidates and those from reserved categories who do not use relaxations by their written test scores, calling them for interviews in a 1:3 ratio. Reserved candidates not shortlisted as URs are then grouped within their categories and considered again in the same ratio for interviews. This systematic approach ensures fair representation while adhering to meritocratic principles .

BHEL mandates that applicants possess good health, verified through a medical examination by the company’s Authorized Medical Officer. As a prerequisite to appointment, candidates are encouraged to undergo an independent health check via a competent medical officer to ensure compliance with BHEL's specified health criteria .

BHEL maintains transparency by requiring online applications and verifiable documentation, mandating prescribed formats for experience claims, and conducting checks on credentials' authenticity. Decisions on authenticity remain final, reflecting rigorous efforts in maintaining ethical recruitment practices .

The management reserves the right to revise, reschedule, cancel, or suspend the recruitment process without explanation, conveying a strong managerial discretion to adapt to changing circumstances or strategic priorities, potentially altering test dates, locations, or selection criteria .

Candidates who have taken Voluntary Retirement from previous Public Sector Undertakings must return any VRS compensation received if selected for a position at BHEL. This policy discourages strategic retirements aimed purely at transitioning to another public sector role without financial loss .

During the initial one-year temporary employment, new hires receive a consolidated wage of Rs.11,000 monthly, along with free medical benefits for themselves and dependent family members, and potentially company accommodation. These benefits aim to attract talent providing initial stability .

BHEL provides up to 84 months of age relaxation for candidates with relevant work experience in specified operations. This relaxation applies to those with 50 months or more of continuous or intermittent service, calculated on a pro-rata basis for lesser experience. For example, candidates with experience in manufacturing or production of high-capacity turbines, generators, or power plant equipment may qualify for this age-related concession .

This policy requiring applications through the 'Proper Channel' ensures that existing employment policies are respected and that transitions to new roles do not occur without prior organizational consent, safeguarding continuity and minimizing disruption within governmental or public sectors .
