Original Text - Chapter 1
The wind howled violently that morning. Leaves danced across the ground of the small village as dark clouds
gathered on the horizon. Mariana pulled her scarf tighter around her neck and stared at the old lighthouse, now
abandoned. Why did he call me here? she murmured to herself.
Since the previous night, a mysterious letter had sat on her dresser. Handwritten and unsigned, the note read: Meet
me at the lighthouse at dawn. Tell no one.
She had never been the type to follow orders, especially from strangers, but something about that message felt...
urgent. Mariana made her way toward the lighthouse, her heartbeat quickening with every step. When she finally
arrived, she pushed the old wooden door open. It groaned loudly, the sound breaking the eerie silence.
Hello? Is anyone here? she called out, her voice echoing through the darkened hall.
There was no response. The lighthouse felt far more haunting than she remembered from her childhood, with its
crumbling walls and shattered windows. A spiral staircase led upward, and her instinct told her to climb.
She started ascending the steps, her footsteps echoing off the walls. By the time she reached the top, the air felt
colder. A tall figure, draped in a dark coat, stood with his back to her, staring through the broken window at the
stormy sea.
You came.
His voice was low, gravelly, but unmistakably human. He didnt turn.
Who are you? Why did you call me here?
The figure finally turned, revealing a face partially concealed by shadows. He was a man with graying hair and
piercing eyes, the kind of eyes that seemed to hold secrets she couldnt begin to imagine.

Mariana, you have no idea what youre about to discover. He extended a small wooden box toward her. Time is
running out, and only you can stop whats coming.
She hesitated before taking the box. Her fingers brushed its rough surface, and a strange sensation coursed
through her body.
Whats inside?
Open it when youre ready. But know this: once its open, theres no turning back.
Thunder roared across the sky, making her jump. When she looked back at the man, he was gone. The box, now
in her hands, felt heavier than before.
Mariana took a deep breath, staring out at the stormy horizon. Her life, she knew, would never be the same.

Improved Text - Chapter 1
The wind screamed through the narrow streets of the village, rattling shutters and stripping leaves from the trees.
Dawn was a mere suggestion on the horizon, swallowed by heavy storm clouds rolling in like an unstoppable tide.
Mariana tugged her scarf tighter around her neck, though the icy wind still clawed at her skin, slipping through
every gap in her coat.
In her gloved hand, the note crumpled slightly with each step. Its uneven, jagged handwriting had haunted her all
night: Meet me at the lighthouse at dawn. Tell no one.
It made no sense. Mariana had spoken to no one out of the ordinary in days, yet the letter had appeared on her
windowsill without explanation. She tried to dismiss it, but its weight clung to her thoughts. Now, standing
beneath the ominous silhouette of the lighthouse, she felt as though the note had pulled her here by force.
The wooden door creaked as it opened on its own, the sound sharp and hollow. Mariana paused, her heart
hammering. The air inside was colder than outside, heavy with the scent of mildew and salt. Dust swirled in faint
beams of light filtering through broken windows.
"Hello?" Her voice was tentative, barely breaking the silence.
Nothing responded. A drip... drip... drip echoed from somewhere above. The lighthouse felt alivewatching her,
waiting.
A spiral staircase rose ahead of her, winding into shadows. She hesitated, her instincts screaming for her to leave,
but her feet moved forward. The metal railing was ice-cold against her palm as she climbed. Each step echoed
loudly, amplifying the unsettling silence.
At the top, the lantern room lay in ruins. Glass shards glimmered in the weak light, scattered across the floor. The
storm outside battered the lighthouse, wind whistling through the cracks.

Then she saw him.
A figure stood at the window, motionless. His long coat shifted slightly in the breeze, but otherwise, he was
stillunnaturally so. Marianas breath caught.
You came, the man said, his voice low and gravelly.
Who are you? Why did you call me here? Her words trembled, but she stood her ground.
Slowly, he turned. His face was obscured beneath a hood, but his eyes gleamed from the shadows, sharp and
unnervingly aware. In his hand, he held a small wooden box, its surface covered in intricate carvings that seemed
to pulse faintly in the dim light.
Take it, he said, extending it toward her. You must protect it.
What is it? Mariana whispered, not moving.
The man didnt answer. Time is running out. Theyre coming.
A thunderclap shook the walls, and Mariana flinched. When she looked backhe was gone.
The box sat heavy in her hands, its warmth startling against her frozen fingers. She looked out at the raging storm,
her mind spinning. The wind screamed louder, carrying with it a faint whisper that chilled her to the bone:
Theyre coming.
