History Fair - Presentation Selection & Rules
This is a brief overview of the guidelines for each project. Please visit the HF website @ [Link] for more specific information and guidelines. Students have researched their topic thoroughly, and will present their research (and learning) in one of four ways. This project will be due on March 16th & Lakeviews 1st Annual History Fair will be on Thursday, March 22nd.
Exhibit (Traditional Tri-Fold Fair Display):
RULE 1: Individuals or groups of no more than five students may do an exhibit. RULE 2: Size limitations: 6 feet high X 40 inches wide X 30 inches deep from the front of the table to the back of the exhibit. (See diagram below.) So long as the exhibit fits within the required dimensions, it may be constructed in any shape. RULE 3: Exhibits must be free standing. RULE 4: Two copies of the Summary Statement Form with an attached annotated bibliography must accompany exhibit. The annotated bibliography should be divided between primary and second sources. RULE 5: Use between 750-1,000 words (headings not included).
Performance:
RULE 1: Individuals or groups of no more than five may participate in a dramatic performance project. No more than two students can participate in a Historical Voices project. RULE 2: Performance may not exceed ten minutes. RULE 3: Dramatic performances and props/scenery must be created and performed entirely by the students registered. RULE 4: Two copies of the Summary Statement Form with an attached annotated bibliography should be submitted. Primary and secondary sources should be separated in the annotated bibliography.
Documentary:
RULE 1: Individuals or groups of no more than five students may produce a documentary. RULE 2: Documentaries are 10 minutes long. Time begins when first image or sound appears and concludes after credits. RULE 3: Documentaries must be research, created, narrated, and produced by the students registered. RULE 4: Documentaries conclude with a list of credits for major audio and visuals sources only. The simple credits do not replace an annotated bibliography. The bibliography and Summary Statement Form must be printed for the judges and do not appear on the documentary. RULE 5: Documentaries should be self-running and students must operate all equipment. No live narration is allowed. Powerpoint projects are not documentaries.
Research Paper:
RULE 1: Individuals only. RULE 2: Papers may be 1500-2500 words in length (refers to the body of the text only--not the additional components). RULE 3: The paper is preceded by a cover page (title and student name only), thesis statement, and outline. It concludes with an annotated bibliography which is divided by primary and secondary sources. These pages are not included in the word count. Students do not submit Summary Statement Forms.
RULE 4: In addition to the annotated bibliography, citations must be included as either endnotes, footnotes, or in-line notes. Either Turabian (CMS) or MLA styles are acceptable so long as the style is consistently followed.
PLAGRARISM IS NOT ALLOWED. PLAGARISM WILL RESULT IN A ZERO FOR SS CLASS GRADE & FAIR DISQUALIFICATION.
