Suicide

Introduction (Seba and Hannah) - Welcome to this assembly about suicide. Throughout this gathering,
we will explore the origins of suicidal thoughts, the signs to look out for in identifying individuals who
may be contemplating suicide, and the appropriate steps to take when someone confides in you. Our
main objective is to equip you with a deeper comprehension of suicide, fostering awareness and
understanding. But first lets pray.

Prayer (Shiloh) - Lord God, be with all those who have struggled with suicidal thinking, who have lost a
loved one to suicide, and those who need support. Be with them. Help them to know that they are not
alone, that they are loved, and that they have places to turn when they’re in need. Lord in your mercy…
hear our prayer.

Bible verse (Karniel) - 2 Corinthians 12:9 - But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my
power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so
that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Opening Explanation (Lalita) - Suicide is a tragic event in which a person purposely ends their own life. It
is a complex issue often associated with deep emotional pain, mental health challenges, and
overpowering situations.

Ways suicidal thoughts originate (Jovi, Karniel & Ojas) - To fully comprehend the issue of suicidal
thoughts we need to differentiate between active and passive categories. Passive suicidal thoughts arise
when someone loses hope for living but lacks an actual strategy for taking their own life. In contrast
active suicidal ideation involves having a detailed plan on how to intentionally kill oneself. Understanding
these distinctions becomes paramount when discussing this sensitive topic and seeking appropriate care
for those affected by it. To reiterate passive suicidal ideation represents a severe mental health matter
that requires serious attention while considering relevant person specific factors such as support systems
and current mindset before creating treatment plans or seeking professional advice from qualified
mental healthcare workers. Meanwhile, if someone has any signs of having an active suicide intention or
motive explicitly always communicated or inferred through behavior changes or statements in whatever
form - urgent assistance should be provided.

How to recognize someone who is suicidal (Adam) - Recognizing someone who is suicidal can be
difficult, as not everyone who is suicidal will exhibit the same signs or behaviors. However, some
common warning signs of suicide include talking about wanting to die or kill oneself, expressing feelings
of hopelessness or worthlessness, withdrawing from friends and family, giving away prized possessions,
joking about killing themselves or even engaging in risky or self-destructive behaviors. It is important to
take any talk of suicide seriously and seek help immediately.

What to do if someone confides in you (Elizabeth, Javon & Ayan) - When someone who is feeling
suicidal opens to you, it's crucial to respond with care and understanding. First and foremost, take their
concerns seriously and let them know that you're there for them. Listen attentively without judgment,
providing a safe space for them to express their feelings. Offer comfort and reassurance, reminding them
that they are not alone. Encourage them to seek professional help by suggesting that they reach out to a
mental health professional. You can even help in finding the right resources or accompany them to their
appointments if they feel comfortable with that support. If the person is in immediate danger, it's
important to stay with them and contact emergency services right away. Remember, any talk of suicide
should never be ignored or brushed aside. It's crucial to respond with empathy, take their concerns
seriously, and seek help promptly. Together, we can make a positive difference in someone's life.

hearts, and hands in unity to reach our destiny. Ever conscious of God, being proud of our heritage, may
