Title: “How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife”

Scene 1: The Arrival

Setting: A dusty, rural road leading to a small farmhouse. Baldo, the younger brother, and
Labang, the carabao, are near the house. Leon walks toward them with Maria, his wife, who is
clearly out of place in the rural surroundings.

Baldo:
(Excitedly)
(Watching from a distance)
There they are! Leon and his wife!

Leon approaches with Maria, who is trying to adjust to the unfamiliar environment. Maria looks
around with slight unease.

Leon:
(Grinning, to Maria)
This is our home. Welcome, Maria.

Maria:
(Nervously)
It’s… so different from the city.

Baldo:
(Teasing)
You’ll get used to it. It’s a peaceful place here.
Leon:
(Chuckling)
I’ll show her around, Baldo. Go on and help Father.

(Maria steps forward, looking at Labang, who is quietly grazing.)

Maria:
(Shocked, pointing to Labang)
What is that?

Leon:
(Laughing)
That’s Labang, our carabao. He’s a big part of the family, too.

Maria:
(Smiling, but still nervous)
I didn’t expect this… so much space, so many animals.

Leon:
(Putting an arm around her)
It’s a different life, but it’s my life, Maria.

Scene 2: Dinner

Setting: The family dinner table. The table is filled with simple, home-cooked food. Maria sits
beside Leon, looking at the unfamiliar food with hesitation. Father and Mother sit across from
them, quietly observing. Baldo sits next to Maria.
Father:
(Gruffly)
So, Maria… how do you find the place?

Maria:
(Glancing around nervously)
It’s… quiet. And peaceful. Very different from the city.

Mother:
(Looking at Maria with suspicion)
The city can be noisy. But this place… it’s home.

Baldo:
(Smiling teasingly)
You’ll get used to the smell of the farm. It grows on you.

Maria:
(Smiling faintly)
I’m sure it will.

Leon watches Maria closely, sensing her discomfort.

Leon:
(Softly to Maria)
You don’t have to eat everything if you’re not ready for it.
Maria:
(Trying to smile)
No, I’m okay. It’s just… different. But I’m willing to try.

Silence falls over the table for a moment as everyone eats. Maria tentatively takes a bite of the
food, but still looks unsure.

Scene 3: The Challenge

Setting: The next morning. Maria stands by the window, looking out at the field. Leon walks up
behind her, concerned.

Leon:
(Tenderly)
Maria, are you alright?

Maria:
(Sighing, looking out the window)
It’s just… hard to get used to. The air smells different, the animals… they’re so loud at night.
And I’m not used to this kind of life.

Leon:
(Softly)
I know it’s not what you’re used to, but we’ll make it work. You just need time.

Maria turns to face Leon, a mixture of frustration and love on her face.
Maria:
(Quietly)
I love you, Leon. But I’m scared. I don’t know if I can adjust to all of this.

Leon:
(Encouraging)
You don’t have to do it all at once. You’ll see, it’s not so bad. You’ve got me, and you’ve got this
family.

Baldo enters the room, carrying a basket of vegetables from the garden.

Baldo:
(Grinning)
Don’t worry, Maria. Labang is friendly. He won’t bite.

Maria looks at Baldo, then at the door where Labang stands outside, watching them curiously.

Maria:
(Smiling faintly)
I’ll have to get used to him, won’t I?

Baldo:
(Shrugging)
You’ll find a way.

Scene 4: Acceptance and Understanding

Setting: The family is gathered outside, with Labang resting nearby. Maria stands with Leon,
finally relaxing and taking in the beauty of the rural landscape.

Leon:
(Standing beside Maria, smiling)
See? It’s not so bad. The quiet. The peace.

Maria:
(Smiling, feeling more at ease)
I guess… I needed time to see it that way.

Mother:
(Walking up to them with a gentle smile)
It takes time, Maria. You’ll find your place here.

Father:
(Nods)
We’ve all been there. Just give it time.

Maria looks at the family—at the house, the land, and Labang—and her face softens.

Maria:
(Softly)
I think I’m starting to understand.

Leon:
(Taking her hand)
We’ll make this work, together.

End.
