Activity -4
Basic Proportionality Theorem
Objective
To verify the Basic Proportionality Theorem using Triangles cutouts.
Pre-requisite Knowledge
Drawing parallel lines on a rectangular sheet of paper.
Materials required
o Coloured sheets
o Pair of scissors
o Ruler
o Sketch pens
Procedure
[Link] three different types of triangle – isosceles, equilateral and obtuse angled
triangle △ ABC, △ PQR , △ ≝¿ using colored sheets.
[Link] a line parallel to the base in each of the triangles using ruler. Let the parallel
lines be P1P2, S1S2 and X1X2 respectively such that P1P2 II BC, S1S2 II QR and X1X2 II EF.
