Activity Type Introduction
Reading and writing This relative clauses worksheet helps students to practice defining
activity relative clauses with who, which, where and when.
Procedure
Language Focus
Give each student a copy of the two-page worksheet.
Defining relative clauses
with who, which, where Students begin with a gap-fill exercise where they complete
and when sentences by choosing the correct relative pronouns.
Exercise A - Answer key
Aim

Next, the students rewrite sentences, correcting the relative
pronoun mistake in each one.
Preparation

Make one copy of the

After that, the students write definitions for places, things, times
Level and people using defining relative clauses, e.g. 'A kitchen is a
room where people store and cook food.'
Intermediate (B1)
When the students have finished, check their definitions together
as a class.
Time
Lastly, students rewrite sentences, combining them together
30 minutes using defining relative clauses.
