Lesson 2
In Lesson #1 I had you brainstorm some niche ideas for your site and
then poke around on Amazon to look at the kinds of products you
might promote that were related to each niche idea on your site.
In this lesson I want to do two things:
➢ Show you some examples of my own sites to give you
ideas of the kinds of content you might end up building
➢ Show you that I face the same questions and challenges
you face in narrowing down a niche idea for your site
In my case I’m under added pressure to make sure I choose a niche
where I know I can hit the $1000/month target by December!
To do that I need to choose a niche that:
• Is not seasonal
• Allows me to leverage my personal strengths (review writing)
• Provides opportunities to use my own images in my posts
because that will give me an edge in ranking well in Google
• Has a good amount of consumer interest and a large number
of related products so I not only have plenty to write about
but lots of searches that will bring traffic to the site
I want to show you how I’m thinking through the process of choosing
a niche for my own site.

Here were the example sites shown in the video:
• [Link] - targets a wide variety of long-
tail, low competition, buyer keywords that are unrelated
• [Link] - targets long-tail, low competition,
buyer keywords that are tightly related around one kind of
inexpensive product
• [Link] - hobby site with a variety of
post types
• [Link] - pure product review site about
one kind of product
It’s your turn to do some analysis:
1. Inventory your skill set:
a. I like to write YES NO
i. If yes, great!
ii. If no, you’ll want to pick a niche that has less
expensive products that don’t require many
product review posts
b. I would be comfortable reading product manuals
in order to research complex products YES NO
i. If yes, you can pick a niche that has more
expensive products and requires product
reviews
ii. If no, you’ll want to pick a niche that has less
expensive products that don’t require many

c. I have personal, educational, or work experience
that relates to at least one of the niche ideas on

ii. If no, you might need to brainstorm a few
more niche ideas
2. Look at the first niche on your list and ask yourself:
a. Are the products I found for this niche the type
that people research before they buy (the price is
over $100, the product has buttons, controls, a
power cord, most of the products are brand
names people recognize)?
i. If so, am I comfortable researching these
kinds of products?
b. Would I have opportunities to take my own
pictures of any of these products either because I
already own at least one of them or have stores
nearby that sell these products that I can visit to
take photos?
c. Is there anything I’m currently doing or could see
myself doing during this course that relates to this
niche?
d. Would this niche bore me after a while?
e. Could I see myself writing about any of the
products in this niche?
f. Are there any projects I’ve completed or could
complete during this course related to the
products in this niche?
3. Look at the first niche on your list and if it contains a large
number of products that would require review posts:
a. Look up “[product type] reviews” in Google
(example, “vacuum cleaner reviews” WITHOUT
quotes)
b. Look at the sites that currently rank on the first
page of Google – are they well known authority
sites?

c. Bring up a few of the sites on the first page of
Google and read through some of their reviews.
Are they very detailed? Do they contain their
own photos of the products?
d. Go to Amazon and look up the top selling
products for the niche and then go to Amazon
and search for “[brand name product] review”
(without quotes) and look at the reviews already
ranking on the first page of Google. Are they very
detailed? Do they contain their own photos of the
products?
4. Repeat steps 2-3 for the rest of the niche ideas on your list
5. After watching the video mentioned earlier and
completing steps 1-4 above do you have any better
feeling about one of your niche ideas over the other?
6. Make a list of any questions you have about narrowing
your niche choice down to 1
