Introduction
Robotics is the branch of technology and engineering that studies the
fabrication, and use of robots. A robot is a programmable machine that can
automatically execute a series of tasks, usually with some freedom.
Robotics was born out of the human urge to create machines that could
perform autonomous or repetitive tasks, often to perform human actions or
to replace humans in dangerous environments. Our talk aims to know the
integration of robotics in everyday life and for this we will first study its
evolution, then its benefits and finally its harms.
I- THE EVOLUTION OF ROBOTICS
The origins of robotics date back to antiquity, with the first automatons
created by inventors such as Heron, who developed hydraulic devices for
rituals and demonstrations.
During the Middle Ages, mechanical advances took place in both the East
and the West, notably by Al-Jazari, who designed "automaton servants".
During the Renaissance, inventors such as Leonardo da Vinci imagined
humanoid automatons, and animated clocks began to appear in European
cathedrals.
In the 20th century, the term "robot" was coined by Karel Čapek, and
science fiction popularized the laws of robotics.
After World War II, the first industrial robots, such as Unimate, were
introduced into factories, marking the beginning of modern robotics.
Finally, since the end of the 20th century, artificial intelligence has allowed
robots to gain autonomy and diversify into areas such as medicine,
domestic tasks and space exploration.
II- THE BENEFITS OF ROBOTICS IN DAILY LIFE.
Robotics plays an important role in several areas of daily life, including:
- In medicine, robots improve the accuracy of surgical procedures and
reduce the risk of errors. Also, assistive robots help people with reduced
mobility to perform daily tasks.
- In education, robots help students understand technical concepts and
develop problem-solving, logic, and teamwork skills.
- In domestic life, domestic robots, such as vacuum cleaners and lawn
mowers, automate repetitive and time-consuming tasks, providing more
free time.
- In security, robots can be sent to defuse explosives, search disaster areas,
or intervene in high-risk environments (radiation, fire, etc.).
- In the field of industry and production: Robots allow more precise
manufacturing, ensuring better product quality and also Industrial robots
allow repetitive and complex tasks to be carried out more quickly and with
fewer errors, thus increasing productivity.
III- THE HARM OF ROBOTICS IN EVERYDAY LIFE.
Robotics, despite its immense importance, has multiple drawbacks,
namely:
-In the field of employment, robots are increasingly replacing human
workers in sectors such as industry, which can lead to a reduction in the
number of jobs available.
-In the field of technology, a heavy reliance on robots in daily tasks can
reduce the autonomy of individuals, especially for younger generations or
the elderly, who could become too dependent on these technologies. Also,
if a robot or automated system breaks down, it can create significant
disruptions, particularly in domestic or industrial environments.
-In terms of health, doctors and nurses must regularly train in the use of
these technologies, and an excessive reliance on robotics could lead to a
loss of certain essential manual skills. In addition, care or diagnostic robots
often collect sensitive personal data on patients' health. If this data is not
properly protected, it may be exposed to risks of leaks or mismanagement.
Conclusion
As a conclusion, we can say that robotics has a significant impact on daily
life, bringing considerable benefits in areas such as medicine, education,
health, and domestic tasks. However, its integration has also caused
problems, such as job losses and technology dependence. Thus, although
robotics offers many opportunities to improve our quality of life, it is
important to adopt it in a thoughtful and balanced way to maximize its
benefits while minimizing its disadvantages.
