1. Describe the four goals of Human Resource Management. Do you
think some human resource management goals are more important
than others? Why, or why not?
According to Dessler (2020), the four goals of Human Resource
Management (HRM) are to help the organization stay competitive, improve
quality and productivity, follow legal and social responsibilities, and promote
employee growth and development. Staying competitive means finding and
keeping talented employees who can help the company succeed in a
competitive market. Improving quality and productivity focuses on making
employees work efficiently and produce high-quality results. Legal and social
responsibilities require companies to follow labor laws and treat employees
fairly, such as promoting diversity and protecting employee rights. Employee
growth and development involve providing training, mentorship, and career
advancement opportunities to help workers improve their skills. Some people
may believe that staying competitive is the most important goal because it
directly affects the company’s ability to grow and succeed. However, the
other goals are just as important since they support competitiveness in
different ways. For instance, a company that invests in employee
development will likely have more skilled and motivated workers, leading to
better productivity. Legal compliance is also crucial because failing to follow
the law can result in fines and damage the company’s reputation. Overall,
while staying competitive is important, all four goals work together to create
a successful and well-managed organization.
2. What is the importance of studying Human Resource
Management?
Studying Human Resource Management (HRM) is important because it
teaches us how to manage people effectively in a business, especially for
business students like me who are currently pursuing BSBA major in Financial
Management. According to Noe et al., (2020), people are the most important
part of any organization, and HRM helps make sure they are treated well and
motivated. Learning HRM also helps students understand how to hire the
right people and keep them happy at work. It explains how to improve
employee performance and handle workplace issues like conflicts or
complaints. HRM is also important for understanding labor laws and ensuring
the company follows them to avoid legal problems. For business students,
especially in financial management, HRM shows how managing people can
impact the financial success of a company. It also teaches us how to build a
positive work environment that promotes teamwork and productivity.
Knowing HRM helps future managers make decisions that balance both
employee needs and business goals. Lastly, HRM emphasizes ethical
leadership and fairness, which are important for building a responsible and
successful business. Overall, HRM is a key part of running a successful
organization.
