Definitions
Chemistry : is the study of the structure and properties of substances
Chemist : anyone who understands something about the nature of substances and
chemical reactions.
Chemical reaction : the formation of one or more new substances.
Thermal conductivity : how well heat passes through a substance.
Electrical conductivity : how well electricity passes through a substance.
Flexibility : how easily a substance bends without breaking.
Flammability : how easily a substance catches fire.
Malleability : how easily a substance can be hammered into different shapes.

Toxicity : how harmful the substance is to humans and other living creatures.
The boiling point : is the temperature at which liquid rapidly changes into a gas.
The melting point : of a solid is the temperature at which solid changes into a liquid.
The freezing point : is the temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid .
Sublimation : Changing from solid straight to a gas without melting ( or a gas to solid)
Examples. Iodine and graphite.
Molecules : The groups of two or more atoms joined together.
Diffusion : when the particles of one substance spread out and mix with the particles of
another substance.
Element : is a substance that contains only one kind of atom.
A compound : is a substance that contains atoms of more than one kind joined
together.
Decomposition reaction : a reaction in which a compound is broken down into
simpler substances .
