ABOUT TAMSA-KAIRUKI
The Tanzanian Medical Students Association (TAMSA) is the sole national organization for
medical students. It was inaugurated in 1990s, having originated from Dar es Salaam Medical
Students Association (DMSA), which was established in 1968. TAMSA unifies medical students
from 11 medical schools founded in Tanzania. It is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-
partisan medial student organization representing the largest medical students’ association in
universities throughout the country.
The Vision
The KAIRUKI Chapter vision is the same as the TAMSA National Vision: “An association
where all medical students working together for a better national and global health and are
equipped with knowledge, skills and values to serve as responsible future physicians and health
leaders.”
The Mission
The KAIRUKI Chapter mission is the same as the TAMSA National Mission: To prepare and
practically equip medical students in searching, identifying and learning how to face, solve and
address the major community health problems in scientific and technological approach, such as
research, plan and propose policy formation, taking part in both national and international
professional conferences and paper presentations of various disciplines. Also, raise concern
among stakeholders (medical schools, ministry, and NGOs) to help support these efforts of
students towards achieving TAMSA’s objectives.
CAMPAIGN INTRODUCTION
TAMSA- KAIRUKI Chapter is pleased to present "take the right path, end HIV/AIDS by 2030
campaign," a campaign aimed at complementing the efforts of the government of Tanzania, and
world health organization (WHO) to make progress towards reducing HIV new infections and
eventually ending the HIV/AIDS endemic by the year 2030. Under this campaign tamsa
KAIRUKI is planning to collaborate with stakeholders in the fight against HIV/AIDS to educate
the society on HIV/AIDS prevention including PrEP and PEP, transmissions, treatments,
encouraging HIV testing as well as combating stigma to peoples living with HIV. The campaign
implementation is under the partnership with TAMIDA TANZANIA.
CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVES.
MAIN OBJECTIVE
To take part and complement the efforts of the government of united republic of Tanzania
towards ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.
Minor objectives.
1. To encourage active participation of the community towards the fight against HIV/AIDS
by equipping them with education on prevention, transmission and treatments of HIV.
2. Combat Stigma through increasing awareness on HIV and encouraging open
conversations and challenging misconceptions about HIV/AIDS.
3. Promote Preventive Behaviors by encouraging the use of condoms, PrEP, PEP and
regular HIV testing through education and distribution campaigns.
4. Engage Youth through the use interactive and innovative approaches such as sports, arts,
and social media to reach adolescents effectively.
5. Strengthen Partnerships by collaborating with schools, health institutions, and community
leaders to sustain HIV/AIDS advocacy.

TARGET AUDIENCE
1. Youth aged 12–24, particularly secondary school students and out-of-school adolescents.
2. Wider community members accessing the Makumbusho Bus Stand.
3. Adolescents at higher risk of infection, including girls and young women out of schools.
4. Parents, guardians, teachers, and community leaders.
CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES
1. Commemoration of World AIDS Day 2024 event will feature a dynamic mix of
community-based activities done at Makumbusho bus stand. The activity is planned to
take place on 8th December 2024. The event will involve the following activities;
a) HIV Testing and Counseling: Free and confidential testing and counselling services
and linkage to nearby care and treatment center for those who test positive.
b) Interactive Education: using trained volunteers and healthcare professional’s
education on HIV transmission, prevention including the use of PrEP, treatment
options, and stigma reduction will be given.
c) HIV/AIDS talks and educational flyer distributions to peoples accessing
Makumbusho bus stand on the day of the event.
d) Distribution of condoms as one of protective measure.
e) Distribution of self-test kits for increasing the rate of HIV testing accompanied with
the education on how to use the kits.
f) Screening for non-communicable diseases to broaden health awareness and support.
2. Adolescents based campaign in schools and social medias. Under this campaign activity
the trained volunteers will visit the selected schools including Makumbusho secondary
school, Tambaza secondary school, mnazi mmoja secondary school, makurumla
secondary school and Makumbusho primary school for the following activities;
a) Age appropriate Interactive Education: using trained volunteers and healthcare
professional’s education on HIV transmission, prevention including the use of PrEP,
treatment options, and stigma reduction will be given.
b) HIV/AIDS speed mentoring sessions and educational flyer distributions to students.
c) Peer-to-peer education with TAMSA and TAMIDA-trained volunteers.
d) Art and Academic Competitions: integration of sports and games as well as essay
competition with integrated HIV/AIDS education and stigma reduction to capture
attention of youths.
Our current focus is on the preparation of the commemoration of words AIDS DAY 2024 on
December 8th 2024 from 0900AM to 0400PM (eat) at Makumbusho bus stand.
Budget Overview:
The total budget for the event is estimated at 2,070,000 TZS, covering Volunteer and healthcare
staff’s logistics (transport, meals, and T-shirts), HIV testing kits, condoms, and educational
materials. Venue arrangements, audio systems, and outreach tools as stipulated below;

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

1. Increased Awareness: Empower the community with accurate information on HIV


prevention, testing, and treatment.
2. Distribute 500+ condoms and 300+ educational materials to participants.
3. Behavioral Change: Encourage safer sexual practices and routine HIV testing among
community members.
4. Stigma Reduction: Promote open conversations about HIV/AIDS and normalize support
for HIV-positive individuals.
5. Engaged community and Stakeholders: Mobilize medical students, government officials
and healthcare providers to sustain HIV/AIDS education efforts beyond the event.

As one of the crucial stakeholders of efforts towards ending HIV/AIDS in our country TAMSA
KAIRUKI is requesting your support in facilitating the accomplishment of the campaign in the
following items;

1. The permissions from relevant authorities to access the target areas and audience for the
campaign, that is Makumbusho buss stand and the schools for exciting the planned
activities.
2. Support in terms of 3 healthcare staffs to support the activities especially during the
activity at Makumbusho bus stand.
3. HIV testing kits (both rapid test and self-test kits), condoms and audio system.
