Problem Statement

A slot antenna is a dual geometry of a dipole antenna. The design of a slot antenna consists of a
rectangular slot etched in a rectangular (conducting) ground plane. The size of the ground plane
is 3λ/2 × λ placed on FR4 substrate as shown in figures below. The length of the slot is a bit less
than λ/2, whereas the width of the slot is a few milli-meters. The port is inserted in the slot, away
from the mid-point for impedance matching. Design and simulate the slot antenna in HFSS at the
frequency assigned to your group and try to achieve the design objectives (see next page).

The design objectives are as follows,
1. Design and simulate the slot antenna geometry in HFSS.
2. The return loss must be less than -15 dB at the operating frequency.
3. The peak gain must be higher than 4 dB.
4. The matching bandwidth (-10 dB) must be higher than 100 MHz.
