Note:
In case you want to change CMS Server’s computer name, it strongly suggests you to
change it before installation of SQL Server 2008.
Follow the steps above to install SQL Server 2008 in Sub-server computer as spare. So
in case the main server computer has hardware or OS problem, it is possible to
quickly change over to Sub-server.
Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 is necessary to be installed first if installation of SQL
Server 2008 is preceded under Windows 10. Please refer to the appendix for
installation of Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.
6. Installation of CMS Software
CMS software shall be installed in all of the computers. Double click on CMS
installation package to install CMS system:
If it is the first time to install CMS under Windows 7, Microsoft .net
Framework 4.6 incorporated in the installation package will be installed first
(because one of CMS programs called RT-Client needs it to be supported for
running) as shown below. But If Microsoft .net Framework 4.6 was already
installed or CMS installation was under Windows 10, it will be skipped by
CMS installation program.

By default the program will be installed in the system drive C: as the path
shown in the window above. You can keep the default path to install CMS but
for CMS server, it is recommended to change it to non-system drives (For
example, D:\Creative Mudlogging System) because there will be binary data
files .RRD created and saved daily in the installation folder when CMS is

running during mudlogging, and the size of each .RRD data file is more than
15MB. So to avoid the system drive C: in CMS server is taken with full space,
we can install CMS in one of the non-system drives in CMS server.
Click “Next” with either keeping the default path or changing the path:
Click “Install” to start the installation until a completion window comes up:

when completion of restoring:
Click “OK” to finish the creation of CMS database.
The “Backup Database” function is used to backup CMS database whenever
necessary during mud logging jobs. For example, after you make complete
configurations in DAQ program, or when you need to back up your
mudlogging data in case CMS server crashes.
To back up CMS database, click “Backup Database” button, set the path
where the backup is to be saved, and give a backup file name:
25

Click on “Open” to start backup process :
A prompt window appears when completion of the backup as shown above.
Note: It is strongly suggested that users backup the database in the following cases, so
that the DB backup files can be used to restore CMS database for the sake of either CMS
database crash or for next new well to avoid an extra-large database:
The first time when completion of unit settings and configurations in CMS DAQ
programs (devices, channels, calibrations …)
After completion of the first well initialization prior to commence of mudlogging job
for this well
Routine backups during mudlogging operations
8. Installation of the driver for CMS dongle, CAN Bus adapter card and
PCIS-DUSK card:

shown below, indicting the device is installed correctly:
Install the driver for PCIS-DUSK card in DAQ computer: PCIS-DUSK card
may be used for external alarms. The driver can be found in CMS installation
directory .\Creative Mudlogging System\Driver\ ADLink7250.

Install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 in Windows 10
1. Why do we need to install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 in Windows 10?
The installation of SQL Server 2008 in Windows 10 needs to be
supported by Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5. But Windows 10 itself is
not incorporated with Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.
The running of CMSSetting program also needs Microsoft .Net
Framework 3.5 to support. Without Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5,
CMSSetting program is not able to be running in Windows 10 system.
2. How to install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 in Windows 10?
We can use an installation-free program named Dism Tool
to install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 in Windows 10:
Double click program to open the following window:
Click “Apps and Features” in the left side and then select “Features” tab:
41
CMS Installation & Setup Manual
Scroll down till you find “.Net Framework 3.5” in the features’ list:
Check the boxes of .Net Framework 3.5 as shown above and then click
“Apply”, it starts installation process:
42
CMS Installation & Setup Manual
Once the process completes, close the window.
To check if .Net Framework 3.5 is installed properly, open “Control Panel”
“Programs” “Turn Windows Features on or off”:
43

If “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5” in Windows Feature window has been
ticked as shown above, that means it is installed properly.
