Are you ready?

Since, you are all ready.

Please, listen first to my instruction properly.
Yes, Ma’am!
This game is called “Unlock the Mystery”
Earlier, I instructed you to download a QR code
scanner. So, I assume that all of you have this
application in your mobile phones.
What you are going to do is to scan the QR code
provided.
Each code has corresponding scientific words.
You can only guess the word needed if you found
out the hint and clues in each word in the qr code.
Whoever guessed the word and can paste it to the
board first, will have a price after the activity.
Are my instructions clear?
Okay let’s start.
I will provide you a set of materials, in the materials
there is a QR code. And all you have to do is to scan
it using the QR code scanner.
Once, you’re done scanning the letters.
You should get the find letters in the envelope that
corresponds to what word you’re guessing.
You’ll paste the letters on the chart provided by the
teacher.
The three groups will receive the same set of QR
codes. And your goal is to whoever guessed the
needed word first and that can paste the chart in the
board will be the winner.
So, here is your envelope.
But, before everything else please check if there is an
enveloped with QR codes, and a chart.

#1 (13 minutes)
Okay, give me 10 claps if you’re ready.
(the students will clap 10
times)
Kindly, sit properly and pay attention to my
discussion.
All the different forms matter or substances are
chemical in nature. Chemical can broadly be
classified into elements and compounds.

Do you know that pure substances are classified into

two more groups? We call these two groups as
elements and compounds.
Now,
Let us first define the elements.
What is elements?
(Name of students) please, read the slide.
Elements constitute the simplest chemical substances (The student will read the text
in which all the atoms are the same. in the slide)

We can define elements as species of atoms that have

the same number of protons in their atomic nuclei.
Although an element’s atoms have the same number
of protons, they can have different numbers of
neutrons and hence different masses.

Elements are complete chemical substances that
relate to a single entry in the modern periodic table.
Elements consist of one kind of atom only. They
cannot be broken down into simpler fragments and
can exist as atoms or as molecules.
Yes, ma’am!
Are you still with me?
(The students will clap 5x)
Give me 5 claps.
What about compounds?
Will you read the slides, (name of student)?
(The student will read the
Compounds are chemical substances made up of two slide)
or more elements that are chemically bound together
in a fixed ratio.
When two or more elements chemically combine in a
fixed ratio by mass, the obtained product is known as
a compound. Compounds can be defined as
substances consisting of 2 or more different types of
elements in a fixed ratio of atoms. When the
elements combine, some individual property of the
elements is lost and the newly formed compound has
new properties.

Do you understand the definition of elements and Yes, ma’am!

compound?

By simply defining elements and compounds, we can

easily identify the differences of the two pure
substances.
And my question is, what do you think is the
difference between elements and compounds based
on the definition that we have discussed?
Yes, (name of student) Expected answer:
The difference between
elements and compounds is
that, elements constitute the
simplest chemical substances
in which all the atoms are
exactly the same while,
compounds are chemical
substances made up of two or
more elements that are
chemically bound together in
a fixed ratio.
Wow, that’s right very good.

practicing new skills
But before that we will have an activity.
#2
I will be provided you an envelope and inside that, it
(7 minutes)
has a strip of paper with chemical elements and
compounds. With the same group, all you have to do
is to paste them in the chart that I have provided.
In the chart, there is a plenty of box shape and you
are going to paste the strip of paper corresponding to
which classification of pure substances they are and
you can identify it based on the definition that we
have discussed about elements and compounds.
I will give you 3 minutes to paste it and after the
three minutes you’re going to explain why do you
think that those strip of paper is an element or a
compound?

This is for group 1.

Oxygen
Nitrogen

f. Developing mastery Since, we already know the difference between
elements and compounds and we also identify
(3 minutes)
whether the substance is element or a compounds.

Let us have another activity.

At this point, we will now measure if you have
learning in today’s lesson.
So, today I will pick students who will answer the
following.
All you have to do is to arrange the jumbled word.
And once you’re done arranging it you will tell if the
word is element or compound.
Are you class ready? Yes, ma’am we are ready.
(The teacher will now present the activity and let the (The students will perform

element and compounds? Yes ma’am, we can identify
elements if the substance is a
simple chemical elements and
that is found in the periodic
table. And in compounds we
can easily identify it if it
consists of 2 or more
elements.
Alright, it seems like you have your learnings in
today’s discussion.

i. Evaluating learning Get a ¼ sheet of paper and answer this one.
