SOP – Edarapalli Sai Teja
I could name any career path in the contemporary world, and the occurrence of them not
utilizing any form of technological resources would be negligible. From agriculture to
aerospace, every field's dynamic nature is tech-driven. Taking advantage of this feature
there's a good majority of students who have leaped onto the field of computer science,
making it one of the most competitive fields out there today. And as an aspiring computer
scientist, I decided that I need to specialize and make a mark in the computation space if I
had to stand out from the rest. The MS in Computer Science from Saint Louis University is
my first big move to gain this expertise.
My father is a farmer and I've grown up watching his dedication towards the land, which is
why I tend to put my all into something that I am passionate about. This character is
something I believe runs within the family. My younger brother and I would always grab
onto the opportunity of surfing online and our fascination with these machines turned more
meaningful as we started picking concepts relating to algorithms, codes, programming
languages, and so on. Our exploration drove us to explore these complex ideas. My family
has always taught me this very lesson through their lives - to gain knowledge and use it
effectively for the good of people. Keeping these words close to my heart, I've worked hard
to gain academic excellence and in its due process use it for the community.
Despite my usual spontaneous personality, the world of computer science slowed me down
and I explored every chip and code with exceptional precision. I developed a good sense of
problem-solving from this very space, and I believe in the long run this would be beneficial
for me and the people I work for. Standing evidence to this fact is the Vehicle theft detection
system project that I designed with my team. Through simple accessible systems such as
fingerprint sensors, the theft mode can be detected and the owner of the vehicle would
instantly be notified via SMS. Developing this prototype further, we installed a system that
would disable the ignition of the vehicle through SMS activation from the owner of the
vehicle. This design was appreciated at several forums and many among us aimed at
presenting it as an academic thesis.
As a fresh graduate, my academic achievements kept piling up as I kept hustling to refine my
technical proficiency through workshops and certificate courses. The certificate courses were
provided by NPTEL on topics such as C programming and Assembly language, and Python
for Data Science. Extending for a course duration of around 4-8 weeks, I was skilled and
certified in the languages of C, C++, Java, Python, and software Linux, OS, GIT (GitLab) by
the end of it. Enhancing this was the IoT workshop conducted by Technical Hub. This
particular workshop gave me the exposure and chance to interact with potential employers
and recognition for my ideas and designs.
At Saint Louis University, I believe that my potential would have a much larger and global
space to grow. The University combines subjects from various disciplines to understand how
Computer Science is not simply an isolated space of study. From statistics to sustainability,
the Computer Science program at Saint Louis University explores concepts under the
guidance of qualified professors and expert industry-related professionals. Added along with
this is the benefit that it is an established and accredited University in the heart of the USA - a
developed country with its consistently awe-inspiring innovations in Computer Science.
The excellent resources and amenities also ensure the students a space to present their
innovations and experiments through the process of trial and error. As someone who believes
in the saying "Trust the process", this is quite a welcoming forum for me to explore my skills.
Home to several international students, I am also excited to be a part of the classroom
experience which will have many like-minded tech-heads. It would be more than an honour
to be a part of this happening crowd, and I hope that you would consider this statement and
enrol me in the program.
Thank you.
