STUDIES (FCH0023)
Down to Earth (DTE) is a University Social Responsibility (USR) based project which is carried out by every
student of Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS as part of their Islamic and
Moral Studies courses. This project aims to provide a chance to every student to practice good moral
behavior and improve their soft skills while contributing to the community. The details of the project are
as follows:

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
The Engineering & Sciences students of Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of the September
2024 batch of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) will organise University Social Responsibility
(USR) program called Down to Earth (DTE) Project, encouraged by the Islamic and Moral Studies
Department in UTP.
We are aiming to educate teenagers about the importance of climate action by providing them
with the knowledge and tools they need to make a positive impact. Our goal is to inspire the
students to understand the challenges posed by climate change, explore sustainable practices,
raise awareness among them and teach them to become advocates for environmental
responsibility in their communities. At the same time, we, THIRTREES will also gain hands-on
experience together with the students through a talk and exciting teamwork activities. This
project which is coincidence with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 13 – Climate Action
and the slogan of “Be A Part of the Solution, Not the Pollution”, we hope to empower the
students to take meaningful action and create a more sustainable future together to ensure that
the voices of youth are heard in the fight against climate change.
1.2 OBJECTIVES
Our group aims to carry out the following aspirations by the end of the project:
i. To educate students with a clear understanding of climate change, its causes, and its
impacts on the environment, society, and the economy.
ii. To encourage students to think critically about climate-related issues, such as sustainability,
renewable energy, and the role of individual and collective actions.
iii. To teach practical steps that students can take in their daily lives to reduce their carbon
footprint, such as recycling, conserving energy, and using public transport.
iv. To inspire students to engage actively in climate action through discussions, projects, and
community initiatives, empowering them to make a difference.

2.0 PROJECT PLANNING
2.1 PROJECT INFORMATION
THIRTREES plans to do two parts of activities during the program by dividing the 100 students
into two big groups. For the first part, the students will listen to a talk and play some team-
building games that requires great teamwork among them, while the other part, the students
will be participating in an EXPLORACE activity. The explanation of the activities are as follows:

2.1.1 TALK AND TEAM-BUILDING GAMES
For this round, we will be holding a talk with the theme “CLIMATE ACTION” to the students, given
by one of our team members. The purpose of this talk is to educate students in a clear
understanding of climate change, its causes, and its impacts on the environment, society, and the
economy. The students should focus on the talk as they will expect many questions during one of
our team-building games. As a result, they can not only gain valuable knowledge about climate
action, but also have the opportunity to engage in practical activities that contribute to saving our
environment.
2.1.2 EXPLORACE
Explorace is an interactive and engaging activity designed to promote teamwork and problem-
solving. The students will navigate through various challenges and tasks that encourage
exploration and learning about recycling, ocean pollution and how to save the environment. Each
team will work together to complete different stations, fostering collaboration and creativity
along the way. Three exciting gifts will be awaiting the top three winners!

2.3 PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES
2.3.1 DEPARTURE OF PARTICIPANTS
• 28 UTP Foundation students with 1 supervisor are expected to depart from UTP at

the activities and will be at the venue at 7.30 a.m.

2.3.2 EXPLORACE AND AWARENESS TALK
120 students of SMKA SULTAN AZLAN SHAH will be divided into two big groups which
consist of 60 students each, Group A and Group B.
Each big group will be separated into five smaller groups for their explorace activities.
Hence, there will be 10 groups in the whole project.
At the beginning, Group A will be at the school hall to attend the awareness talk while
Group B will be doing the explorace activities. Then, they will have a short 30-mins break
before continuing their activities. This time, Group B will be at the hall for the awareness
talk while Goup A will be doing the explorace activities.

There will be a total of 5 stations of explorace that will exist during the whole project.

5.0 IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY
From this project, we aim to achieve all the goals mentioned for us to ensure that this issue can be
solved from the beginning. Our targeted people are specifically for high school students so these are the
impacts that can be achieved.
♦ Early Awareness about Climate Change
Give exposure to high school students about the importance of saving our environment
through such beneficial activities.
♦ Release Stress
Students will be doing so many activities that can help reducing their education stress

session. Hence, it encourages students and teachers to join this activity.
♦ Good Engagement Between Students
Fun activities will help the students to strengthen their bond between them by doing group
activities and building such good environments.
Teachers will also contribute themselves to participate in these activities to ensure that the
harmony between students and teachers is maintained.
♦ Provide New Beneficial Developments
School managements will take part in this continous objective by providing new
developments that specifically related to the climate change objectives as to make sure that
the school will keep growing better.
♦ Maximize Safety Environment
As an effective result, people in the school will make use of all the safety environments and
facilities, for example the recycling bins, zebra walkway and stairs handle.
Climate change issues will be one of the main topics that school will highlight just like the
importance of one’s safety.

6.0 EXPECTED CHALLENGES
6.1 Limited Engagement
Students may not show interest or may find the topic less engaging if the program isn’t
interactive or relatable to their daily lives.
6.2 Time Constraints
Schools have packed schedules, so finding time within the academic calendar can be difficult.
Programs might need to be shortened or conducted during breaks or after school hours.
6.3 Weather
Unexpected rain or storms can disrupt outdoor sessions, making it difficult to host activities and
games. This can lead to cancellations or forced changes in venue.
7.0 CONCLUSION
This Down to Earth(DTE) project specifically our group mainly focusing about giving awareness to young
people about our international sutainable development goals (SDG). To be exact, the 13th sdg which is
climate action. This project for sure will open their mind to be more precise about current environment
issues. We hope that this particular project will give its full impact and can be repeated in the future.
