Primary 4 Science Lesson on Matter

The lesson plan is for a Primary 4 science class on matter, with the objectives being to explain and classify the three states of matter (solids, liquids, gases), experiment with examples of each state, and explain how gases differ from solids and liquids in their ability to spread out and fill available space. The lesson will introduce matter and the particle models of the three states through a PowerPoint presentation, include hands-on activities for students to complete, and assign a homework worksheet on states of matter.

LESSON PLAN FOR SCIENCE IN PRIMARY 4

Subject/ Time SCIENCE

PRIMARY 4
11:30 – 12:30
Topic MATTER
Objectives Objectives:
A t the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to;

1. Explain states of matter.

2. Classify the properties of solids, liquids and

gases.

3. Experiment and observe some solids,

liquids and gases.

4. Explain that gases are formed when liquids

evaporate and that when a gas is cooled, it
condenses to form a liquid.

5. Explain that gases move and flow more

easily than liquids, and in all directions.

6. Explore how those gases differ from solids

and liquids in that they do not maintain
their shape and volume, but spread out to
fill the space they are in.

Lesson content  Introduction of matter

 Matter can be classified as:
 solids.
 liquids.
 Gases
 Particles models and changes in matter for
solids, liquids and gases.
 Exercises
PRESENTATIONS
Induction Set (2 minutes):
- Teacher instructs pupils to sit on their seats
- Teacher will inform the topics for today’s lesson.
Development (25 minutes):
- Teacher will show what will be in this lesson using
power point slides.
-Teachers will explain
 Introductions of matter
 State of matter
 Properties of 3 states
 Particles model of 3 states
 Changes in matter

- Teacher asks if they need extra explanation.

Practical / Activities (25 minutes)

- Teacher asks pupils to copy the following
exercises in a piece of A4 paper and answer
completely.
- Give instructions on what to do by giving out the
example for pupils do the quiz together.

Closure (8 minutes)
-Review the lesson by questioning orally to the
whole class.
- Teacher will give a worksheet of state of 3 matters
to each pupils for them fill in blanks as their
homework and tell them the homework must be
done and to be handed in during the next lesson.
-Lastly, as time left in 3 minutes, we will ask the
pupils to read “DOA” and tidying the classroom.
